Awesome gourmet experience! Ultra-friendly chefs asked me how my day was going, with genuine interest. The vittles laid out was most impressive. I seriously wanted to sample everything. And all of it was irresistably good (and most was vegetarian, thankfully). Highlights were the fresh spinach, the delicious mussels, the certainly-not-good-for-you-but-amazing polenta, and the blueberry shortbread. I took an extra shortbread for the road (seriously hard to pass up) but I really wanted to take more of everything. Highlight was seeing a Google employee eating an entire stacked plate of the clams. Dang, serious amount of seafood! I would go back here in a heartbeat. The food was serious 9.5 territory (even if you do not include the free price).

Theme is bistro style and street faire food. Although tempted to make a falafel, I choose to sample small portions from the bistro; sausage, steak(well-done), baked chicken(juicy), and cuscus(dry). This was our 2nd cafeteria of the lunch and appeared to cater towards the meat eaters as Terry had trouble filling his plate with vegetarian options. I'd like another test drive here.

All the dishes at 5ive are made with 5 ingredients or less. I don't remember much about this place as we were hitting it up after Cafe 7. Sorry.

Basic Deli is quite a gem. Normally I wouldn't interested in just eating a sandwich place on Google Campus but these guys make their bread from scratch. Using the Sandwich Creator form (see menu), I made a toasted dutch with garlic aioli, JC's Pastrami, mixed greens, and tomatos. It's not Katz Deli in NY but it beats the socks off any chain sandwich place in the area. If you're in a hurry, they have pre-made sandwiches on the go. On the way out, I tried an amazing lavender ice cream with almonds. Basic Deli is underrated in my book and would love to visit again.

Like most cafes at Google, Off the Grid are environmentally conscience about the dishes they prepare. Products are brought in from local and organic suppliers. They serve food that's low on the food chain and everything is created from scratch. Whatever the chefs are doing, they need to continue it. The buttery rissotto, hanger steak, flash fried kale, grilled tilapia were outstanding. Off the Grid lands on my top 3 list.

  • Friday is the busiest day and full of visitors. Most cafes offer special meals like outdoor BBQ grilling to hot pots

  • Arrive before 11:30AM to avoid the lunch rush. Some cafeterias don't open until 12 Noon so plan accordingly

  • Visitor parking sucks but has gotten better. Arrive before noon.

  • Although extremely tempting, only take what you will eat. Do not waste anything
