Ive been looking for a loooooonnnnggg tiiimmme. I love fried chicken. Some of the places that I know of are,
**************************
Pioneer Chicken (3-4 locations in LA, weird orange batter, my all time favorite)
Popeyes (red beans and rice with biscuits and honey.....hmmmm)
Ma Pinkie's BBQ & Soul Food (San Mateo and I like it)
Dinahs (Glendale, good stuff but chickens are huge)
Kentucky Fried Chicken (those damm herbs and spices)
Churches (my least favorite of the chains)
Powell's Place (Eddy and Fillmore, SF - never tried it)
Louisiana Fried Chicken (Oakland, never tried it)
House of Chicken N Waffles (Oakland, never tried it)
**************************
Most chinese food restaurants have fried chicken but its usually just the bird in hot oil with seasonings. I like it but I prefer a little batter.
Japanese have battered chicken too but its normally cut into small pieces called chicken karaage.
Southern fried chicken is by far my favorite, you can normally find this stuff in bars and diners. Just a slight coating of batter and has to be super crunchy.
For me, I prefer the southern fried chicken for the the real deal, soul food restaurants will probably be your best bet. I have heard some good things about Powell's Place in San Francisco and planning on doing a jatbar visit.
Please add to the list if you know of any.

I don't think I'd recommend the House of Chicken and Waffles in Oakland. I went there, and although the food was pretty darn good, the prices were insane for what you got. Tiny miniscule portions. Actually, the chicken is probably the best deal there for the price, and it is really good. So I changed my mind. I would recommend it, but only for the chicken.
