This was our first visit to Thai Pepper, and definitely the last. We reached Thai Pepper at 9:45PM on saturday evening (July 2, 2005). We were rushed to the table by the hostess on the condition that she will let us in only if we can order immediately. We agreed, which was our first mistake. Then, even before the water is served, she comes to take the order.

When we started to give our order, she again rudely asked us to rush it and to order in 2 minutes as the kitchen is soon to close. Alright...and she is least interested in taking your order, but looking at the watch continuously, and exclaims again ,'you have one minute remaining to order'. We, a group of 5, were wondering at her behaviour. We had a guest from Texas, who was suprised. We were taking all this rudeness from her, simply because we did not wish to get into arguments in front of our guests and create a scene and spoil our evening. The order is on our table in 5 minutes which was quick, and we appreciated.

We started to eat, and she was standing on our table again with 5 mints and the bill. Never heard of this before in the hospitality industry that the guest is given the bill in the restaurant even before they have started eating or finished eating. We continue to eat, and she is again there after a minute to collect the check. Alright... we are still keeping our patience with her behavior as we did not wish to create a scene, and place my credit card on her plate. She takes it, and is back with the bill for me to sign it the next second. And all this has happened even before we have finished out appetizer. This time, I told her that I will sign it after I have finished eating my dinner. She leaves.

But a minute later, she is back again and says, ‘Can you please sign the receipt, I have to close the register'. I stopped eating. Signed the receipt, and tried to tell her that she is ruining our dinner. We had driven from San Francisco to eat dinner there, and she has completely ruined it for us. If she was under so much pressure of closing the restaurant at 9;45pm (when the sign outside says 10PM), why did she let us in? She could have said we cannot serve now as we are going to close soon. We would have gone back. I told her, 'we have come here first time, and you are not helping us in anyway to come back here again.'

On this instead of feeling apologetic, she argued with us that it is 10 pm and she has to close the restaurant. There were guests sitting on two other tables too. People, who were sitting before us, were given a bill after us. She did not even have the courtesy to stand there till I have finished talking to her, and made a face and left the table, and very loudly started talking to two other guys (who were also serving) in her own language. One of them was kind to serve us water.

We regret that we sat there to eat dinner. The hostess ruined the entire dinner for which we were billed $59.40.We should have got up and walked out of the restaurant after all this humiliation. I have the receipt, which also gives the time when she got the check. I asked the guy serving us water, who is the manager, and what is the lady's name, so that at least we can put our complaint across and express our regret and unhappiness over the service. He said, ‘she is superior to me, I cannot give her name’. We left the restaurant.

What we experienced at Thai Pepper is unheard of in the restaurant industry. All of us felt unhappy and insulted. Our guest from Texas suggested that we should sue the restaurant for their misbehavior. What they have done is against basic customer rights, and I think we should certainly do that. Will never go there again, and will strongly recommend my friends and everybody else we meet never ever to got to Thai Pepper.

I've gone at lunch and it was absolutely excellent!! You really should not have gone so late and should have left in the first 10 minutes if you were treated rudely.

My experience was very good. Great quick service. Awesome hot fresh food (Pad Thai and Green Curry chicken) and they asked us how spicy we wanted it, which is a plus for me. Forget about your first experience and try it again for lunch.

By the way...how was the food?

I worked at a sushi restaurant before, and we have the same policy as thai pepper. The restaurant close at 10 as so the kitchen and the sushi chefs. It's because the owner only pay them until 10 and he doesn't give any extra money even if they stay for late customer, which is why the server usually ask the customer their last order before 10. It is the same with the person who work at the cashier. I think this might explain the behavior of the staff at thai pepper. The servers at my restaurant, don't mind to wait for the customer until they finish eating because we depend on the customer TIP, not only on the monthly wage. It might look rude to the customer, so we tried to explain before they enter the restaurant, and they usually don't mind ordering and paying first before they finish eating.

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with Thai Pepper and won't give them a try again because their food is excellent. I've had food catered from them numerous times for meetings of 90 at work and they've always been friendly, consistent and delicious. I finally was able to make it in to eat at the restaurant and found the food was even better eaten at location! The place is nice inside and the staff friendly and attentive. I think your mistake was coming in 15 minutes before they close. I've had the same exact treatment like that at all restaurants when I come in when they're almost closed - i usually just get something to go so they can clean up and close up. i mean I really can't blame them because after a long day then 15 mins before they need to shut down clean up and finally be able to go home to sit down and take a breather; a large crowd comes in and usually the time to order eat and finish up for a large group means another 1 1/2 hours of work. Can you really blame them?

But really, Thai Pepper yUM and so affordable!

Oh plus, there were five of you for dinner and it only cost 54.00?~ I don't think you get the same quanity and food for that much at Krung Thai or the fancier places.
