I had been sick all night and called in sick today. I laid in bed with my head lightly throbbing and decided I needed to eat. I wanted a big meal, cheap prices, and of course, something super tasty. I've been trying to visit Lorenzo's Sandwich Shop in Belmont for quite awhile now. Hours are 9:30-3:30 Tue-Sat which makes visiting on a weekday near impossible. My sources tell me to avoid the lunch rush because the line is out the door packed with high school students.

I left my house around 1PM and as luck would have it, the line was out the door. I stood outside for a couple of minutes then finally made my way inside of the shoe box deli. This place is small and filled with sandwich munchers like myself. With 3 dedicated sandwich builders, the line moved fairly fast and by the time I knew it, I was ordering a club on wheat ($5.85) and dutch pastrami w/ provolone ($5.95). I would eat half of each sandwich for lunch and the rest for dinner.

club sandwich (image 3,4,5) - excellent sandwich, 3 toasted pieces of wheat, smoked ham, turkey, nuked bacon, mayo, lettuce, and tomato. All the makings of a perfect club. Quality paper thin deli meat with meat in every bite. I'd wish they go for thicker bacon :p One of the better clubs I've had in awhile and it's an easy repeat order.

The #5 is hot pastrami which I ordered on dutch crunch. One of my big pet peeves with dutch crunch is it always ruins the roof of my mouth. Lorenzo's has mouth-roof friendly softer bread. I'm curious to see where they get their bread as it's nearly the best thing on the sandwich.

The pastrami is heated in the microwave and just to let you know, it's not the thick sliced off the brisket Katz style but more of a thinly cut with not too much peppering. Definitely fattier than chain sandwich shops and 2x better. Super super good. With fresh ingredients comes the killer closer, the secret sauce which is the garlic sauce with pesto? The sauce compliments the sandwich very well and is a must have with any order. Try the dutch pastrami, you won't be disappointed.

Lorenzo's sandwiches are some of the best in the area and it's easy to see why the line was out the door today. Prices are $5-6 with additional toppings costing .50-1. Portion sizes are more than adequate to fill you. Finding Lorenzo's Sandwich Shop is in a stealthy location off Ralston Ave. Parking can be a pain but you can snag a spot in the neighborhood. Congratulations to 30 years in business and a 9 rated sandwich!
