Barneys Gourmet Hamburger is one of the better burger places in the bay area. With a large choice of burgers to choose from, you are almost sure to find something that you will like. Ive been to their marina district location and happily ordered the Barney Burger a couple of times. I felt like something different today so I got the Blackened Burger. To accommodate the burger we ordered a full plate of spicy curly fries (ranch dressing is great with sutile hint of rosemary).

I believe all burgers are flame broiled...I love that burnt taste and should be a requirement for any burger :) Burger took about 10 minutes which is fine by me....in the real world of cooking, things take time to cook. Burger arrived and it was a beautiful site...grill marks on the burger. The burger is isolated from the veggies so you get to build it the way you want it. Condiments are also available on the side - thousand island dressing, plain mustard, or deli mustard.

Meat - crumbly texture, fairly lean, quality stuff....excellent. I ordered my burger blackened style and it was spicey, medium kick to it, just enough to open my taste buds.

Bun - toasted sesame bun, great stuff

Veggies - fresh, tomato could have been cut thicker...it was tiny

Bacon - wow..you cant get this bacon at the supermarket. Their cuts are extra extra extra thick.

If you like sit down burger places like Red Robbin, Fuddruckers, etc, you will enjoy Barneys Gourmet Hamburgers even more...its a dont miss spot. The burgers are quite large so bring a hefty appetitie.

Barneys wrecked me.

...and Zaccarys finished me off. It was a day of eating in Berkeley. We started off with Barneys and I ordered the Western Burger with MEAT. Usually I don't eat meat, but I had to see what the fuss was about. Barneys has an extensive selection of veggie burgers (which I commend them for) but I saw one behind the counter and it was just a totally pale comparison to the meat burgers (unlike, say, Red Robin, where their BBQ burger with Boca patty is BETTER than their meat offering)

So the Western Burger is HUGE and comes with slabs of pork instead of bacon. Needless to say, I peeled most of the bacon off as I wanted to survive this burger ordeal. Most of the condiments were served on the side, allowing you to build the burger you want. This is nice. I threw everything in (except my aforementioned bacon) and I went at it. Its a VERY messy burger. I had to pretty much holdit the whole time because I knew if I set it down, it would crumble to pieces and I would be eating it with knife and fork.

So what did I think? The meat tasted like the biggest best barbecue you have ever been to. The meat gets 9.5 stars, the bun was good, above average. Prices were a bit high, but not too much out of line from say Red Robin. Anyway, this is not the best burger I have ever had, but its in the top 5 probably. I look forward to trying Vals burger and comparing them.

Today's assignment was 2 pizza places and one burger joint. I was up for the task and Barneys was the first stop. I ordered a Hickory Turkey Burger and a coke. I wanted to try out the shake here, but Jason warned me about the later stops we needed to make, so I opt a coke instead. We also ordered a spicy curly fries to share. The fries were skinny and I couldn't really taste any spiciness in them, tasted about the same as the ones in Jack in the box. Burger arrived soon after, it looked good. Lettuce and pickles are on the size, so is the thousand island sauce. The bacon was amazing, it tasted really more like pork jerk than bacon. The turkey pattie was a bit burnt though and the bitterness was obvious. Overall the burger is good and price was reasonable, should have tried the shake though. Maybe next time.

Wow these burgers are crazy good, they are very tough to beat. They have traditional to crazy fusion burgers, and they are all very good. They also have sandwiches and salads for those who don't feel like a burger.

The first time I went, I had the guacamole burger, and it knocked my socks off. I couldn't finish the whole burger because it was huge. I ate half of it and finished the other half as a late night snack, yum! I went with two friends, and we all ordered a different basket of fries, with lots of ranch, and sampled the different french fries. I believe we got steak cut, curly fries, and garlic fries. My favorite were the curly fries as they were seasoned lightly, and they were only slightly spicy from the pepper.

I've been back a few times, I tried their teriyaki burger, and something else that I can't remember. There is also a Barney's in San Francisco, and it's equally good. I ordered the battered vegetables, and they were seasoned nicely. I felt that there was too much batter, and the pieces of vegetables were cut too big, but they tasted great. They batter was seasoned, and they sprinkled some parmesean cheese on top. The ranch went nicely with this, and my curly fries. Yum, artery clogging.

Anyways, I would definitely recommend this place for a great burger. There are many types of burgers to choose from, and each is STACKED. I will continue to eat here as long as I am capable of eating.

Barney's rules in terms of the classic restaurant style burger. And I LOVE the fries and curly fries. They're perfect for sharing.

All their burgers are stellar. The chicken burgers can be hit or miss though because the chicken breast can get dry sometimes, but for the most part it's pretty good.

All of their Bay Area locations are pretty consistant with their service and food taste and quality. You can't go wrong with this place.

There are some heavy hitters in the bay area when it comes to that perfect hamburger, but just as the 'perfect hamburger' is an ambiguious opinion so are the reviews.

Don't let my rating scare you, Barney's produces a fine burger, with all the trimmings in fact however I am a fan of the a burger that means business. Quality meat, melted cheese, and bacon sandwiched between two toasted buns. None of this frilly green garnish they insist on in California.

With that said I had their equivelent of a Blue chesse bacon burger and did it blow my mind? nope, I thought it was rather bland. Not as in not tasty, but it just tasted normal, like I could of made this on the weber in my back yard. it just was not stunning or mouth watering. I think I'm just addicted to St. John's Bleu Cheese Bacon Burger.

Next up were the beer battered vegtables, I'm not sure what exactly to report here as I was impatient and burnt the roof off my mouth when a mushroom exploded in all it's OMG IT'S SO BOILING glory in my mouth. I think snot flew out and tears flowed from my eyes. I sucked on my arnold palmer for a good few minutes after that one.

The clear winner of the meal were the curly fries. I'd return to Barney's for this alone. Orangish golden, tight twists, fried just right, these are good curly fries.

That's it. Take heed when munching on deep fried mushrooms (and zucchinni too!)

Hamburger, french fries

After 15 years, I won't go back to Barneys again - last few times they have gotten our order wrong, and seriously under/overcooked our burgers. When I went tonight, they overcharged me, and gave me the bill twice without fixing
