It was a perfect day out today on 4th Street, with loads of people hanging out for the Jazz festival. Weather was not too hot, perfect temperature for either basking in the sun or cooling off in the shade. Shops were bustling with activity, the smell of barbecue food was heavy in the air. Since we had already munched at Taste of Himalayas, we needed some dessert. We headed over to Sketch Ice Cream. Crowds were heavy, but we had to see what this place was like. Small scoops were $4.50, smaller scoops were $3.50. So I had to see what a $4.50 scoop of ice cream tasted like.

The selection here was most impressive, a lot of traditional flavors which was nice. Many people were getting the combination scoops (they put 2 flavors in the cup). I decided to go with the Vanilla Bean and the Spearmint combination. My son went with the dark chocolate.

I found the consistency to be very smooth. Not very rich tasting, but smooth and melted easily. The scooper they provided was ultra small, so this was meant to savored slowly, not gulped down for cool relief on warm days. So I took my time. The vanilla bean was about average. Very lush in flavor for sure, but not unlike other vanillas I have tried. The spearmint however was another story. After my first taste I thought it was gross as it tasted like dirt, or a root or something. It didn't have the ultra-sweet I was used to experiencing with a spearmint flavor. It was the real deal. After a few bites I warmed up to it and actually enjoyed it. A very unconventional ice cream for sure, but good stuff.

My son did not like the dark chocolate. It was the only chocolate they had, and it wasn't really his deal. He wanted a milk chocolate. I sampled it, and thought it to be good, but my favorite chocolate is the dark.

The ice cream was probably in the 8.5 range all told, but damn it isn't cheap stuff. Fast friendly service that was allowing many people to sample their unique flavors was a plus as well.
