Thanks to Lisa for suggesting Bonne Sante in Burlingame. I wondered what the name might have meant and altavista translated it as 'Good Health'. I would have figured gourmet clean looking restaurant with large lcd monitor serving monster burgers and sandwiches. I live in Burlingame and must have passed this place 100's of times not knowing what type of food they served. I've noticed the hamburger sign outside but everytime I've driven by, they looked closed. The hours state Mon-Sun 11:00-5pm Sat 11-4pm. Since I work mon-fri in another city, the only option for me to visit is a Saturday.

I rolled in around noon and World Cup Argentina vs Mexico game was on. I'm already beginning to like this place. The place was fairly busy with a couple of people ahead of me. Menu lists a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, and burgers with prices very respectable. I ordered my bacon cheeseburger with american cheese, french fries, and a snapple for a little under $10.

I sat down in front of the large lcd screen tv and watch Mexico score a goal, then Argentica countered with a goal of their own. Exciting stuff and by the time you know it, my burger is served.

french roll - soft bread and most likely baked in the mornings. I believe this is the same bread used for the sandwiches. The bread was good but for a burger, it's way too much bread and you would end up with sections with no meat. It would have also been nice to toast it.

cheese - a couple of slices of american cheese, quality stuff and cut from a large block of cheese.

toppings - red onions, tomato, romaine or green leaf, secret sauce, bacon. Quality ingredients. bacon was a tiny sliver of bacon, way too thin. Secret sauce was some vinegar based dressing, kinda overwhelming.

burger - very large crumbly pattie, hand formed, and I could not figure out how they cooked it. It didn't have grill marks nor was the pattie hot. It was barely warm and not hot enough to melt the cheese. lean tasting and not greasy at all. I would gauge the patties over 1/2lb. it was hard to tell the real flavor of the beef since the secret sauce overwhelmed everything.

fries - fresh cut fries seasoned with sea or kosher salt. the bag puts super size to shame. the fries can feed an entire family and it was less than $1 with your burger combo.

In terms of comparing this burger with other burger places in the area. It's does fairly well but would not make my favorites list. For me, I look for a couple of things,

- asks you how you would like your burger cooked
- patties cooked over an open flame
- meat smells like steak and texture crumbly

My pictures don't do justice to the size of the meal but trust me, it is an insanely amount of food. I can't imagine ever finishing one of these burgers by myself. If you look at picture #8, that's the aftermath. I'd recommend splitting the burger and fries because its HUGE.

Overall, I like Bonne Sante because the portion size and quality ingredients exceed the price you pay. I think it's an excellent deal on the burgers and from what I saw, there's a lot of foot traffic that would agree they love this place too. I hope to try their sandwiches on my next visit.

Hottie: This place is made for Sandwhichs

Ive ordered this everytime ive came here, but today i ordered a Ceasar which is not as good. But my usual order consists of the Hottie: Avacado, Dutch Crunch, & Fries. U should change the cuisine type, cause the Sandwhichs is 10x better than burgers.
