With 3 visits under my belt for Broadway Prime, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I cant confirm this story but from what I hear, one of the chefs left House of Prime Rib in San Francisco and started his own restaurant called Broadway Prime. The courses, sides, and cuts are nearly identical - instead of the HOPR King Henry Cut, its call the Prime Cut at Broadway Prime.

We arrived a little after 5PM with no reservations. They immediately gave us a corner table. Broadway Prime has a homely feel to it...nothing stuffy like the restaurants you get up in the city...jab jab...oh yeah..thats right..I used to live in San Francisco. Drove me nuts hearing the suits gripe about their food or talk on their cellphones...anyways enough of my complaining.

For dinner, it was the bread pudding, garlic mashed, creamed corn, and standard cut prime rib cooked medium.

salad - my least favorite part of the entire meal. The romaine lettuce is completely swimming in dressing. omg...I hate it and keep forgetting to tell them to save the greens. I would order the dressing on the side.

bread - 1st batch was cold, returned it and received a warmer set

sides - the standout was the garlic mashed. Nice touch to have a roasted garlic clove on top to mash into the potatoes.

Prime Rib - overcooked and lacking flavor. I dont know if its because we were early customers getting the end cuts. They tend to be more well done. (look at picture #7, the top portion of the rib isnt even shining, it was dry) I should have returned it but I had eaten most of it.

I dont know what happened? Broadway Prime has always been an excellent place to visit. My other visits were 9s and above, this last visit was barely a 7. I hate writing reviews like this. I like to give props where credit is due, but tonights visit, was a shame. I wanted my money back, $30+ a plate is a lot of money and I shouldnt have to eat Sizzler type steaks. I do have a history with Broadway Prime so I will give them another chance.

Dropped by for dinner last night and it was not what I expected. That's not a bad thing, prime rib service is right up front, we were seated immediately - rsvp'd - and our order was taken quickly.

we ended up with two med-rare select cuts one regular mash and corn, the other garlic mash and spinach. a bloody mary and a house cab.

Prime Rib - Cooked exactly as ordered, tasted like one would think. Nothing surprising.

Creamed Corn - Good, a bit rich, full intact kernals, not the mush.

Creamed Spinach - This was suprisengly delicious, I expected the super rich ruth's chris version for some reason - I enjoyed this.

Garlic Mash - Tasted like Potato Buds with garlic mashed into it. Wasn't crazy about this. The roasted clove is a nice touch.

Bloody Mary - Delicious. Nice kick to it.

House Cab - Skip - tasted more like a zin, very light body and almost an 'adult grape juice' then a wine.

Total bill was something like $90, not bad for what you got in my opinion. The dining room I expected to be more formal, however looks like a neighborhood joint which I liked. No dinner jackets or leather lace ups required. Denim and Tshirts were fine.

I'm not a huge fan of prime rib...but I still think Houston's and HOPR comes before Broadway Prime...however for what Broadway Charges ($25-31 depending on cut - including all sides) it's a good bang for the buck.

Prime Cut

For a steak house on the Peninsula, it was good. Ordered my cut medium rare, was quite juicy and tender. Spicy horseradish kicked it up a notch. The plain mashed was good, creamed corn was great. Overall, beats driving up to the City. 8/10
