A new taqueria for me to try and it's literally down the street from where I live. I'm not a stranger to La Corneta Taqueria as I know about the locations in San Francisco and Redwood City. I'm glad to see a taqueria so close to my house. I normally have to drive over to San Mateo and visit "Burrito Alley" on B Street.

My 1st impressions are this is one hell of a clean taqueria. The dining is packed with little kids screaming to the top of their lungs. I'm confused on where to order and go to the register. After waiting through 2 people deep, I'm told I need to order in the imaginery line by the counter. I had to practically yell my order with the noise level in this place. I ordered a carne asada with guacamole taco and super prawn taco. When my tacos arrived at the register, they magically appeared with a salad on top. WTF. I'm too impatient and figured I'd give it a try. I paid a staggering $8.68 for 2 large tacos.

Note to the owners/managers of La Corneta Taqueria - Place a sign that says "PLEASE ORDER HERE". I stood in the order line and watched many people make the same mistake I made.

Check out this list of ingredients for the super taco. 2 tortillas, beans, meat, guacamole, iPhone, sour cream, cheese, salsa, Nikon 17-55mm F2.8 lens, tomato slice, cilantro, oranges, and lettuce. Ok, so there wasn't really oranges in the taco.

tortillas - soggy, they weren't even grilled. I didn't see how they prepared it but they might have been steamed. Terrible. I require my corn tortillas off the grill. If they serve tortillas like this on all their tacos, I'd never order again.

toppings err..salad - Sour cream and lettuce do not belong on tacos. Hell, I don't even like cheese on my tacos. That's 3 strikes right there. There's absolutely no way you can pick up these tacos. You have to use a knife and fork to avoid spilling the taco salad everywhere. I know I'm bitching and I am the one who broke down when I could have sent it back.

Carne Asada - their carne asada is very very good. We are talking on the same league as Chavez Supermarket. Even with all the garbage piled high on top of the meat, I was still able to taste the excellent meat. I think it had grill marks and definitely want to try again.

Shrimps - medium sized shrimps cut into thirds and cooked on the flat grill. Seasoned lightly with salt and butter. They were ok but nothing like the shrimps you get at Taqueria Los Cunados. I know it was super sized and had a salad sitting on top but I'd rather have smaller tacos with more shrimp.

I want to rate below a 7 but I have only myself to blame for putting up with the super tacos. I'll be making a return visit in the near future and next time, no lettuce, sour cream, or cheese on the tacos.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 7/24/2007 - 8 Rating: Much better visit. Instead of doing the rematch with the tacos, I went with regular carne asada burrito with guacamole. Burrito priced in at around $6 and change.

Tortilla - I don't favor the steam technique but it does keep the tortilla from drying out.

beans - refried, the lady didn't evenly place it in the burrito. One side was bean heaven while other side was more rice. Good beans though.

rice - kinda dry, had peas and carrots in it for who knows why. moisture? rice had the chicken tomato broth flavor. weakest part of the burrito.

carne asada - they use this giant spoon to load up the chopped meat. 1 scoop produces probably a 1/4lb meat. The steak was chopped finely and seasoned lightly. Better tasting asada than a lot of the other taquerias on B Street. On my last visit, I said it was on the same league as Chavez Supermarket, I take that back. It's not a 9 rated asada, more like a solid 8.

Looks like I have a new standby taqueria if I'm too lazy to head out to B Street. Burrito size is large and I barely finished mine. Service is fast and they'll even give you small bag of chips/salsa to go. Parking might be a problem on the street but there are 5+ different parking lots within walking distance. Bring ear plugs if you plan on eating in the restaurant. It's too damm loud

Open until 10PM everyday. Accepts plastic.

What dish did you eat?

I got the veggie burrito, and my wife got the the carne asasda tacos. We go weekly here and it is always fresh and delicious. Stick with the burritos or tacos, those are their best dishes!!
