Blue Sky has one of the coolest signs, so retro, this belongs in vegas. The building reminds me of a coffee house from the 60s. Terry and I were meeting a friend for lunch and heard Blue Sky serves some good chow.

I always put a disclaimer when I review chinese food as Im a hard grader for this cuisine. I think it has a lot to do with my parents taking me to downtown LA Chinatown back in the early 80s. I swear up and down that I cant get food like that anymore. Enough of my ranting....

I went with the wonton soup and spicy shrimp something

Wonton Soup - dont order the small cup, go with the bowl. It is literally night and day. Im not kidding...the cup I ordered came with 1-2 won tons and some green onions. If you order the bowl, you get snow peas, green onions, shrimp, won tons, and bbq pork. It even tastes different....go with the bowl.

Spicey Shrimp - heavy on the syrup and batter. Wasnt too crunchy and they cut the shrimps in half. I would get pieces where it was more batter than shrimp. The sauce was sweet and lacked any spice to it. It had plenty of garlic to mask the weak flavor on the sauce. I dont think I would order this again.

I would try Blue Sky again just because their Wonton Soup was so damm good, their sign is cool, aquarium had big fish swimming around, and I liked the fact that they were using old school plates and cups.

Blue Sky was a recommendation from my coworker Manish. We get there, and the place looks old. Like maybe a converted breakfast diner from the 50s. Its very cool looking in a retro kind of way. The building, the sign. . . Once you get in, though, its classic Chinese restaurant. The interior is nice with a large aquarium greeting you as you enter. We are seated and quickly shown menus. I go for the recommended Hot & Sour soup and the Ma Po Rice Dish, spicy.

The soup arrives and I must admit it didn't taste anything out of the ordinary for me. It was decent, as Hot & Soup soup usually is, but nothing more. The Ma Po, however, was extremely delicious. The spicy tofu was a feast for the soul. It reminded me of a classic, non-traditional, americanized chinese restaurant like Eastern Winds or Ho Chow in Fremont. Judging by the large caucasian clientele, I can see I was not alone. haha. If you are hankering for Americanized chinese food, you will find yourself very satisfied with this place. The wide assortment of dishes will keep you entertained and the friendly and efficient wait-staff will keep you satisfied during your stay.

Shrimp & Vegetables

Basic, no-frills, Americanized Chinese comfort food. For $10 (incl. tip) I had a large plate of shrimp & vegetables, fried rice, soup, and an egg roll. Incredibly efficient and professional wait staff. I eat here often and highly recommend it.
