I'm going with the lazy formatted review

Pros
- free meal paid by work
- good place to accommodate a large group
- mildly entertaining cook displaying cutlery skills
- hostess, waitress were friendly and attentive

Cons
- no fire
- no fire
- no fire
- my NY steak sucked, tasted watered down
- no fire
- no fire
- shrimps were also bland and tasted watered down
- did I mention Kyoto Palace does not use fire as part of their cooking show?? I was devastated.
- kinda expensive for what you get

Kyoto's Palace food was bland and cuts of meat were nothing to brag about. My New York steak lacked any marbling. Steak was cut up and served well done alongside a mixture of stir fried vegetables. Wasted calories going down the pipe without any flavor whatsoever.

I'm grateful my managers took us out to lunch and appreciate they tried to take us to a special place. All the food was paid for and you'd think I'd be giving a much higher score since I didn't pay for anything.

The bottom line is, I love fire and they didn't light anything on fire. Who wants to watch a steaming volcano? Booooorrriiing. I'm here to see fire like Nijo Castle

If I wanted to impress someone with a fancy meal, it wouldn't be Kyoto Palace.

I was at Kyoto earlier this year for my sis' bday and it was am impressionable visit... My family has been coming to Kyoto for a while now, and we will NOT be returning.

Kyoto use to be a better value than Benihani's. Not the case anymore... same prices! That was a kick in the wallet that dad didn't expect. Usually Kyoto was $5-10 less per person for entree selections.

Sorry - not to be a racist remark, but the expectation and fun of going to a Teppan style Japanese Steakhouse is the Japanese Chef's and their showmanship. I can recall at Beni Hani's getting lemon fancifully squeezed into my water glass, pepper ground in my hair, plus the cool drum effects with the salt and pepper shakers. Our chef was 'Juan' and he lacked enthusiasm, artistry, attention, or even a smile. We all felt cheated and he barely spoke more than a few words the whole evening.

The sushi per my sister and her hubby was blah - not fresh, edges dry, they asked for a replacement and the waitress was put-off, yet did finally bring out fresher sushi for them.

All salads were dripping wet and it made the dressing watery.

The drink service was slow and we had to repeat my bro-in-law's beer order twice.

The food was prepared for one guest, then nothing but an appetizer for another. Timing was crappy.

Toooo much butter! Three of us requested low butter on our fried rice, and instead we were either ignored or we had a language barrier.

I'm use to hearing other tables cheer or get into the cooking action with the chef's. The place was packed this Sat night and other than the usual chatter, no one was really enjoying themselves. I mean, even the drunk people who get outta hand had nothing to get crazy about.

The bill was several hundred for 7 of us, to be expected but to get charged for 2 beers that never came? An insult.

It was very disappointing and yeah - like Jason said... NO FIRE! Literally and figuratively.....

If someone else were paying I'd prob go back but not after whining and begging to go to Beni Hani's first...
