It's funny how lunches are repaid with me. I'll buy Terry 2 lunches and when it comes time to pay back, I sneak in Japanese food. He's never seem to complain so we'll see how long I can keep this up. It's all good, we went to Sushi Kazoo, a budget sushi boat with good deals on bento boxes. This is my 3rd time visiting and lazy to write the other 2 reviews.

I've never gone all out for nigiri and suspect it isn't Sushi Kazoo's specialty. They excel at maki rolls and bento boxes. Go there during lunch rush when the sushi chefs are pumping out fresh rolls constantly. The last thing you want to try is raw fish thats been sitting at room temperature for more than 15 minutes...danger danger.

We had a full crew today so we took up a table instead of a boat seating. The other guys ordered bento boxes and from conversation, no one complained. Everyone thought the food was good and easily return visit.

For me, I went all maki rolls

hamachi maki - minced yellowtail, rice, seaweed. About average tasting, next time I'll stick to negihama (green onions).

tempura california roll - california roll but deep fried in tempura. At the time, the idea sounded wonderful but looking back, it had too much batter. I'd rather stick it out with a normal california roll.

dragon roll - eel, shrimp tempura, avocado. My second favorite roll of the lunch. They really did a crazy job on the avocado. They must have put 1/2 of an avocado on there, loved it. The light grilled eel was glazed with a soy honey sauce. Not too much, just right. Overall pretty darn good.

spicy san diego - avocado, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna. I don't remember what the fish and shrimp taste like as the spicy orange sauce is the deciding factor. It's kinda sweet, kinda spicy, guilty pleasure novelty sauce and you know what, I liked it. If you're wondering what that orange stuff is, it's mayo, sriracha, and fish eggs masago/tobiko.

All the rolls were about $1-2 lower than other sushi houses in the area without a drop in quality. It's not mind blowing sushi yet it's consistent enough to make return visits. I've been 3 times with the previous visits being bento boxes. The boxes serve you a lot of food and they're only $7-8. I'd say the food is 7.5 with value boosting it to a respectable 8.

We arrive and it was about half full. We were shown a table and scanned the menu. In the vegetarian section I noticed the eggplant and tofu bento and had to try it. I also got my standard California rolls.

Service was prompt and my miso arrived quickly. It was by the numbers - not bad. California rolls were next - and I must admit they were just OK. I thought they tasted a bit bland, with the imitation crab.

The winner here was the eggplant. It was deep fried and juicy inside. A nice texture - I had no problem finishing this. I also tried a few of the tofu pieces and they were standard (compared to what I had elsewhere). The spinach on the bento was also quite tasty. I finished that as well. Everything else was your standard.

I would come back for the eggplant however. Prices weren't outrageous if you stick to the bentos.
