Bowl Bowl House was quite the surprise for me. I wasnt expecting much and happy to report that my stomach agrees with the portion size, price, and taste. I didnt order anything fancy, just the combination fried rice. Rice came in a large bowl with shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, and mixed veggies. Its nothing spectular in terms of presentation or anything but its the fried rice you can make at home. It was like home cooking :)

I think another reason I enjoyed it was the lack of salt. I remember getting back to work praying I wouldnt have to drink 10 glasses of water to quench that thirst. Another good thing about Bowl Bowl was the laid back atmosphere. I recall seeing board games, magazine, and other things to keep you busy while you slurping down a smoothie, sipping tea, or enjoying a scoop of Rainbow Ice Cream. Im sure you'll find something on the menu to keep you coming back for more.

Last but not least, while we sat down they had Nine Inch Nails 'Closer' lightly playing over the radio....cmon thats a good sign!!! If you want a low key restaurant that serves home style cooking at reasonable prices, go to Bowl Bowl House.

I was completely unprepared for the experience I had at bowl bowl. From the outside, it looked like another hip chinese restaurant. I was expecting heavy-msg food, high on grease and low on actual flavor. I was mistaken.

I ordered the Kung Po Shrimp rice bowl (egg fried rice). Then waited. The wait wasn't too long considering I could see the guy in the kitchen fire up the wok and make my order right after I ordered. No fried rice sitting in a large steel vat to be scooped out and into my bowl.

The bowl was presented very nice, was hot from the wok still. The fried rice was not overly greasy and not at all salty (like msg salty). Just full of flavor and tasty. The large prawns in the dish were hot and not terribly spicy. All in all, I found the dish to be just what I needed. It filled me up, had lots of unique full flavors, and didn't leave me with an MSG headache. I ate the dish fast and felt 100% satisfied with the value of my meal. Among the best fast-food chinese-food restaurants I've been to.

I did notice they didn't provide soy sauce on the tables. So some that do like salt may be a bit disappointed. Prices were low, perfect for lunch. I will be back.

Combination Fried Rice

Not the kind of meal that would warrant a return visit. One of the guys working there was having a cigarette in the doorway to the patio and the wind blew the smoke back into the restaurant. He finished before the food came.

Veggie Chicken and Veggies

Super good. YUM! You can't find a place that does veggie chicken unless you go to downtown San Jose. I love the food here but must admit that I did get a migraine after eating there as well, so I wonder about the MSG.

chicken and noodles

I wanted to like it but the chicken tasted funny like it was past its prime and then the afternoon was msg migraine time. They did have super fast service and a clean bathroom.
