Finally made the visit over to Bagel Street Cafe for lunch and ordered a corned beef sandwich on a bagelroll. For about $7-8, you get the sandwich, chips, and a drink. Not too bad for a lunch meal.

bread - best part of the meal, very moist and had the flavor of a bagel.

meat - corned beef was about the same stuff you can get at a market. Its wasnt deli quality but still good enough for me. Bagel Cafe put the right amount of meat.

toppings - veggies were fresh

Overall, I enjoyed Bagel Street Cafe and look forward to checking out the other sandwiches on the menu. I havent tried their bagels for breakfast so that might be worth checking out too.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 4/17/2007 - 8 Rating: I had the Pastrami on Dutch Crunch and dang did that hit the spot. The pastrami was heated in a microwave topped with provolone cheese. No it's not jewish deli style but still enjoyable. I had the usual suspects; lettuce, tomato, onions, light mayo, light mustard. The Dutch Crunch bread is easily the best part, airy interior with crispy flakes on top.

These sandwiches blow away any of the chain restaurants in the area. No brainer when deciding between Bagel Street Cafe and the others (Togos, Quiznos, Blimpies, and Subway).

I had my first taste of Bagel Street Cafe after Eddie brought me back a sandwich and I enjoyed it immensely. He also brought back a menu for me to look over.

Anyway, the Sandwich was a cheese sandwich that was served on a bagel roll. The bread was absolutely fantastic on the sandwich. The rest of the sandwich ingredients were also fresh and flavorful. The only gripe was the sprouts which don't appeal to me. The sandwich was big, but not Rogers Deli big. So I finished it with ease.

The menu had a lot of writing about Bagels and keeping them fresh, etc so upon reading this I got VERY excited to try out their bagels. So the next morning I am there at opening time to see what the deal was.

I ordered 1 plain with plain cream cheese and 1 cinnamon with plain cream cheese. I was expecting some New York City streetside vendor type of Bagel. What I got was far from it. The bagel was defiitely fresh and tasted good, but it was a bit tiny and mushy. Not exactly how I like my bagels. (I ordered it not to be toasted. I suppose I could have avoided the sogginess by toasting the bagel, but come on, not everyone likes their bagels toasted). The cream cheese they put on there was soft to begin with. And on the warm fresh bagel, it turned to mayonaise consistency. Gross. I wanted the thick, tough cream cheese I grew to love in NYC. Oh well.

So Bagel Street Cafe gets props for their sandwiches served on the Bagel bread, but the bagels themselves just didn't do it for me.

RETURN VISIT for Terry! 5/1/2006 - 8 Rating: I go here A LOT. Probably because its so close to work. So I figured I owed everyone some more explanation here. I invariably get the Cheese Combo (with your choice of 3 out of 6 or 7 cheeses) on your choice of bread. I go with the Bagel Roll. Dutch Crunch. Dutch Crunch is key. You need to get Dutch Crunch or you will not be as satisfied. I think they stock extra of this as a lot of people order this. Though I have been later in the day when they have run out of it. Oh the Humanity!

They put sprouts on the sandwich, so if you don't like that, don't get it. The rest is standard sandwich veggies - and they are all very fresh and good. I usually go with the lunch combo for another couple bucks that includes sandwich and free drink refills. I notice that they sometimes through in a bagel chip or two as well. And if you are lucky to get one, it is some good stuff as well.

Its no Rogers Deli to be sure, but its the next best thing in my book. If you are working at Apple or near the Apple campus, there should be no doubt to you hitting this place at least once a week. Bonus is that they have the '10th Sandwich is Free' card. So look for that.

i decided to drop in and pick up a sandwich on my home....first time trying bagel st.
the place is spacious inside...they have a pretty large menu of sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches...prices seem reasonable...
for their sandwiches, they feature 'bagel rolls' chewy, bit a bit tougher than a regular bread...it was after 2pm and near closing for this breakfast and lunch spot, and they only had a 'sourdough bagel roll left' so i went for it....maybe they guy serving it was wrong? it tasted like plain bagel, not sour. but it was good. i ordered a salami with cheddar, my favorite. the meat quality was about what i expected, good, but not amazing. produce was fresh and crisp. they used lettuce, sprouts, tomato, red onion, cucumber, dill pickle, and peproncinnis...with mayo and regular mustard....overall quality was good. a little strange to do lettuce and sprouts...cucmber and pickle...i don't mind and appreciate a loaded sandwich, but still it is unusual...

i asked the guy if they had any hot deli sandwiches and he recommended that they could microwave the roast beef, corned beef, or pastrami, (or i suspect anything else they serve)

it would have been nice if i could have chosen from their selection of rolls, but i got there so late, i am surprised they ahd any left.....they had asiago, onion, and dutch crunch bagel rolls, which sounded good.

this is a good sandwich spot near my house, but only open till 3pm or something like that.

the bagels looked decent, and they had a bunch of breafast bagel sandwiches...this seems like it would be a good spot to get your day started, or take an early lunch, before the rush.

sandiches are pretty hard to screw up, and these guys do a fine job. the bagel roll is unique, and i might return to try some other flavors...

I used to work across the street from a Bagel Street cafe, located on Technology Dr. in San Jose. I know each store is independently owned, so this review may not affect other stores.

The people who owned the cafe were very friendly. They always tried to guess what I would order and usually they were right. But like most busy sandwich stores, they ask you if you want everything on the sandwich and you let them know what you dont want but sometimes they put it on anyways since they're so rushed.

Bagel Street Cafe in San Jose, next to San Jose Airport, is always packed during lunch hours. But they're open early for breakfast and open around 11am for lunch. The San Jose location usually only offered two types of soups; chicken noodle and minestrone, sometimes on Fridays they would serve Clam Chowder. Even though they have chili on their menu, if you ask for it they probably will not have it.

This is not a Togo's where you can expect to find big portions. This is not subway either where the bread taste all the same no matter which one you choose and sometimes you feel like you're eating a veggie sandwich. The sandwich quality here is a notch higher and so is the price. You get your choice of bread, mine favorite being Dutch Crunch, and the veggies they put in your sandwich taste fresh. There are many varieties of sandwiches to choose from and they all taste good, but sometimes one sandwich is just not enough, at least for me. Your choice of sandwich can be on a bagel or a roll.

I typically order a sandwich on a roll plus soup, which runs close to 10.00. Sometimes I order a bagel pepperoni pizza, which costs around 5.50, which is nothing more then a bagel, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, but yet it still manages to taste good. At times I would order a soda. The San Jose Bagel Street does not provide free refills on your soda. The strategy is to fill it half way while waiting for your sandwich and then fill it all the way on your way out.

Accepts: Cash, Visa, Master, Amex.

Typical Meal: Sandwich, soup, drink will run about 9 to 12.00.

Best Deal: Toasted bagel with cream cheese.

Peak Hours: 12pm to 1:30pm. Arrive earlier or later to avoid the lines and getting your sandwich made correctly.

Parking: Small lot but plenty of parking nearby in business lots.

Conclusion: I would only go there for lunch if I ever work near one again. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. The lunch prices are kind of high for a sandwich store. The sandwich taste a lot better than the chain stores or home made. All ingredients taste fresh and management is friendly.

Reviewing the Bagel Street CAfe on Maude and Mathilda / Sunnyvale

Ever walk away after munching down lunch feeling good you ate healthy that day? Today was my day!

Craving a good sandwich, it was a toss up between La Boulanger on Mathilda or the Bagel Street Cafe on Mathilda/Maude. I'm all for the little guy (and I love Bagels) and stopped in today at 2 pm. My stomach has been angry-hungry since 11:30 am!

I walk into this charming, very tidy bagel shop and locate the sandwich menu. This location has an impressive selection of both hot and cold sandwiches plus a cold case with grab-n-go entree salad, fruit salad and cream cheese spreads. Great bottled drink selections too. (Rare to see my favorite Cran-Grape Juice)

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a fresh french roll. At $4.45 I'm hoping it will be filling. The lady at the counter was very pleasant and earns extra points from me.... she washed her hands after EACH customer. (And yes, I watched her!) The counters, tables and cases were super tidy even after the lunch run. My sandwich made on the spot. My large sized roll was topped with plenty chicken salad, green leaf lettuce, thick dill pickle, cucumber slices, shaved red onion, sprouts, pepperoncini and sans the tomatoes. Shoot, this thing was thick.

The bread - very fresh and light tasting. Crust was just right, not crumbly, and a nice pale brown. Probably baked that morning.

The chicken salad - different and delicious! Minced white meat chicken, lite on the mayo, minced carrot, onion, celery and black pepper. Very good!

The vegetables - Wow, so many tasty, fresh, crisp veggies! TERRY, you reading this? I can see being satisfied as a vegetarian with their selection of veggies alone.

With my bottled cran-grape juice this was a cool lunch under $7. Quite filling and I don't feel overly stuffed.

There was a steady stream of traffic even at this late lunch hour. I grabbed a 'buy 10, get 1 free card' and plan on earning that free one. I will definitely be back.

I would much rather go to Bagel Street Cafe than Togo's, Subway or Le Bou any day. And I'm curious about their pizza bagels, bagel dogs and my usual asiago cheese bagel with roast beef stands up. Delish! ;)

Great value, I'll be back!
