Cupertino Bakery is a hazy one for me and should have written this review weeks ago. It was suggested by Mike and we're told it was more than a bakery. There's a Indian buffet for $9 with majority being vegetarian dishes. I don't even remember the names of the items I ate. It's all pictured on image 8. I did 1 1/4 runs to the buffet and enjoyed all the items. They didn't have fresh naan/roti like other places but they did bring out a fresh dosa.

If you eat in the buffet room like we did, you WILL smell like the buffet after you leave. The rest of the day, your co-workers will think you bathed in a curry bath or rolled around in cumin seeds. It should also be noted they had a Cricket game on cable. Completely lost on what the hell is happening on tv, yet I'm intrigued and can't stop watching. I was waiting for someone to get tagged with the chicket ball. It didn't happen so I continued eating.

Towards the end of the buffet, they had bakery goods. One was vegan, blllaaah. That vegan dessert tasted about 1 week too old, needed to be tossed out. One had fruit loops in it, interesting texture, just ok, and the bizzaro vegan delight which obviously had animal fat/butter in it, was very good.

I would have given this place and 8 like Terry but it wasn't memorable enough for me to do so. There are great Indian places in the area and for the same price, I can get better selection. It's not to say the food wasn't good or anything, I'm just saying competition is tight. Cupertino Bakery is worth a try and just a reminder, they are a bakery too. They have plenty of Indian sweets and more traditional baked goods like chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake.

I walk by this place all the time and always wrote it off as just a bakery, not worth stopping by for lunch. Boy was I wrong. The place has a smallish selection of South Indian buffet items as well as a full service bakery. We enter and the place is very busy - good sign.

The buffet is in a small room in the back. Cricket is being shown on the TV and patrons and enjoying their food. The back room was a bit stuffy since it was hosting all of the buffet food, but it was still comfortable on this rainy day.

I had no trouble filling up my plate - the vegetarian selection was quite good. The first plate shown in the pictures above is mine. I have no idea what the items are (sadly) but I will say I enjoyed all of it except (surprisingly) the green dish in the lower left of the picture. The squarish bread item to the right of the "donut" is actually french toast! An interesting flavor for the meal. The dessert item in the lower center is an excellent mix of corn and tapioca flavoring. Very good finisher for the meal. After devouring that plate, I helped myself to a couple of baked cookies that were included in the buffet. Some were good, some were just ok.

Overall I was very impressed by this place, especially since it was so close to my work. Prices were a bit high at $9 considering the selection - but the indian restaurant selection is the area is pretty thin - so I imagine that it would do pretty well. I'll be back for sure.

dbg ate...

The buffet

Several unusual dishes made with good quality ingredients. A few were a bit oily but overall better than most places. Was very happy to also get an utthappam (or dosa) as part of the lunch special. Numerous tasty desserts too.
