Formosa restaurant is an odd looking restaurant. If it wasn't for the chinese letters above the front door, you would think that they served american style breakfast from the exterior and interior decor. They even played country music over the stereo.

This restaurant was recommended by one of our coworkers as he swore by the Taiwanese style food. He ordered our food so our trust was based on his taste. I ordered fried shrimp just in case. I dont know the names of the dishes since it was in chinese but will do my best to describe.

Vegetable dish - green veggies with a light glazed sauce, very bitter with overwhelming ginger taste to it. Unique flavor but would not order it again.

Peanut, Tofu, Pork? - almost a kung pao chicken dish but with tofu, pork, lima beans and some other vegetables I've never had before. Hmm...I have mixed feelings on this one.

Fried Shrimp - light battered prawns with salt, onions, and jalepenos. Dish is the norm for me as they serve this dish for many nationalities. Too lazy to peel the shrimp so I ate them....good dish

Green onions w/ pork and squid - Now this is an interesting dish...pork and squid is a odd combo. I couldnt really taste the squid but i knew I was eating it because of its texture. The green onions were very fresh but the whole plate was covered....it had to be 4-5 complete stalks on onions. I liked this dish a lot.

With new flavors to process in my head, Formosa comes in with average tasting food. I enjoyed the experience of new foods but the lack of atmosphere and high prices left me wanting more. The lunch was too expensive @ $16 each!! I probably wont be heading back. Sorry Eddie...theres no love for this place

We went to Formosa for lunch. I was prepared to order a lunch special (which vary in price from $6 - $8 approx). I might have been happier if I had, but I was swayed by a coworker who said "trust me" and we ordered a variety of stuff (only one of the 4 dishes being vegetarian friendly).

To put it blunty, I was very disappointed with my meal. While the flavors were decent and complex and enticing, it just was not stuff I felt comfortable eating more than a taste of. I think this place would appeal to the more hardcore Taiwanese restaurant goers, but for me, a vegetarian with an uncultured appreciation of Chinese food, I found it to be a little more than I can handle.

Well, what can I say..... I recommended the place and Terry and Jason didn't like it. I think mostly because I ordered the wrong items. I saw they have some kind of chef specials and I wanted to try. It is also on the expensive side - even I can't get out of that one.

I did later go back to this place with my family and this time I ordered something we knew:

Broiled chicken w onion - this should be an easy dish to do but they managed to messed it up. The chicken was not even fully cooked.

Chinese cucumber w clam - the clams were fresh and taste pretty good and the Chinese cucumber didn't have the bitterness in it as last time.

Tofu w soy sauce - a traditional home-cook dish, got a passing grade, nothing to write home about.

Stir fried shrimp w cashewnuts - again, passing grade.

w rice and some drinks, the damage for the dinner - $60 including tips for 2 adults and 2 babies. Well, guess I am not coming back either.
