Hearing that Gumba's Cafe was a hole in the wall from Adam and Kevin, I had to pay my dues and check it out. Yeap, they were right, its small and cozy with no obvious signs it was part of a chain, perfect for jatbar. It can be a bit hard to find but just remember its directly across in the post office in the small shopping center and the parking is in the back.

We arrived around 7'ish and it was dead inside, kind of odd for dinnertime. Oh well, we ordered the medium combo and waited 10-12 minutes to receive the golden pie. For a medium size pizza, Id swear they would serve this as a large at other pizza places.

crust - I hate when pizza places undercook their dough. Im glad I didnt have this problem at Gumbas, the edge of the crust was crunchy and the rest of the pizza was a tad soggy. It would not pass my fold test but it was still good.

sauce - nothing too special but almost nothing to complain about. Maybe put more sauce?

cheese - they put just enough cheese and was stringy.

toppings - a lot of toppings and I love the fact that they dont bake all of their vegetables so they dont come out all burned. Toppings appeared and tasted fresh.

Gumba's Cafe serves quality pizza at great prices. Ive been twice already and their lunch specials are some of the best values jatbar has seen in Cupertino. Hooray for Gumbas Cafe.

I was a bit skeptical going to Gumba's cafe. When it comes to pizza, Jason usually doesn't provide the goods for me (Arinell excluded). It also wasn't very promising when I saw a personal pizza for $4.50 and a mini pizza for $6.50 (of course this is plain cheese only - nothing else required in my book). At Jasons request I went with the mini. When I saw the pizza arrive in VERY short order, I was even more skeptical. Come on...

Then when it arrived on the table, my mind changed. OMG. This looks promising. The cheese was layed on thick, Costco style. (yeah I REALLY like Costco pizza). The crust, though, was much better. It had a hint of sweetness and was crispy on the outside while retaining full softness inside.

OK, its not new york style pizza, but I wasn't fully expecting that. Its definitely more of a California style, but WOW is this great stuff. The sauce is laid on light and it was OK, but the winner here is the cheese and the dough. The cheese was a bit on the oily side so you may want to dab down the top of it, but if you are a pizza lover, I can't see you not digging Gumba's.

This was like a calzone with italian meats, cheese and mustard with tomato sauce on the side. Very tasty. House red wine was decent & cheap. The interior of the restaurant has been spiffed up by the new owners. Staff is friendly. I will return.
