I was a bit hungry after lunch and convinced Terry about hitting round II at I Love Yogurt. It was nearby to work and wasn't listed on jatbar yet. We pulled up and the yogurt place is sparkling clean. They must have opened recently because everything looked brand new.
The lady behind the counter was super nice proceeded to load up my cone with golden gate chocolate yogurt in a wafer cone. A small will run you ~$2.80 and if you look at picture #5, it's a tall serving. I think on my next visit, I'll get it in a cup so I can choose from at least 20+ toppings. I think each topping costs 90 cents.
The golden gate chocolate was as smooth as gelato and probably without the fat. Yogurt hit the spot and glad we made the stop. The name holds true as you'll love I Love Yogurt.

Jason was looking for an after-meal destination and who was I to turn down some Yogurt dessert. We stopped into this new place and the vanilla machine was broken down (bummer, my favorite) so I settled on the cookies and cream flavor in a child cup. Check out that cup next to the turtle. I don't see how a child can manage this monster.
At nearly $3, though, I thought it was a little on the expensive side. The yogurt tasted decent enough, not as rich as ice cream of course - your basic yogurt experience. I can imagine that this place can get a lot of traffic on summer days, but with only 6 flavors or so to choose from (and a bunch of expensive toppings - 90 cents each) I found the selection to be limiting.
Still the yogurt tasted good, and was a little better for me than ice cream would have been.

"6 - Only return if someone else is buying"
Seriously. I don't hate the place nor was it horrible, but I don't plan on coming back. The only good point was that the portion was huge. They ran out of child size cups, so I had to get the small. My sister and I bought the peanut butter fudge and it had the essence of nail polish remover. No depth of flavor. Needless to say, my sister and I didn't finish the small cup. |

My neighbor convinced me to go to this place. He caught me squandering around and asked what I was up to, I told him I felt like ice cream or dessert. I had tiramisu or gelato on my mind but he told me to give I Love Yogurt a try and we did.
Upon arrival the place looked questionable, I liked the sign and that was about it, as we walked in they had 4 flavors of yogurt. I bought a small and figured it was enough to share, at $4 for the small I thought they were nuts. Anyways I got a mix of the raspberry and chocolate.
OMG you call this a small?! The little styrofoam tub she hands me has a mini version of the leaning tower upon it, I would of called it a large. Anyways we go out side and try to eat it, we got through half of it before completely giving in and tossing it.
It's good, and definitely worth a return visit. I felt bad about wasting food, but it was just too much. We sat outside defeated, by yogurt of all things.
No real gripes besides more napkins, and no real praise either. I wish them well.

After dinner at Miyakes, I wanted to grab some desert at I Love Yogurt just down the street. I had a coupon for buy one small get a small free. I warned my friend that I had heard a child size cup was like the Leaning Tour of Pisa, but it did not seem like she believed me and needed to see for herself.
We arrive and like Miyake, the place was empty. The whole square was dead. We walk in and are immediately greeted and asked if we wanted to try out samples of their available flavors. The employee informs us that the flavors change on a daily basis as my friend was looking for more flavors. She could not decide what to try and asked to sample the strawberry shortcake and seemed impressed by the flavor but opted for her usual Ghiradelli Chocolate. The employee loads it up (see my gallery) and then asks us “is this enough or do you want more?” You should have seen the size of our yogurt when he asked this question. We both knew we would not be able to finish what he held in his hand. I also ordered the Chocolate frozen yogurt. Total order was $3.00 for very generous portions of frozen yogurt. If we order this elsewhere, the portion size would be embarrassing.
The Ghiradelli Chocolate taste like regular chocolate ice cream yogurt. Nothing special but for the amount you get it is a very good deal, especially with the buy one get one free coupon. I think the value decreases when you want to add the extra toppings for 0.90 each. Avoid the toppings and stick with the basis, you will not be disappointed.
As we sat there trying to conquer this monster, a woman rolled up in her car, came in and ordered a child size vanilla and strawberry shortcake. Apparently, you can order two flavors in one cup. After she paid, she jumped back into her car and we heard her squeal in excitement to her boyfriend about the size of the yogurt.
We obviously could not finish our order so we asked if they had lids and they do have lids to take the orders to go. (See my gallery for the lid). The employee behind the counter tells us that we can freeze our yogurt in the freezer for up to a year. I am not sure how they would ever be a factor for me. There are several sizes from child size to small, medium, large, and pint size. Buy the pint size, stick it in your freezer and maybe you will get some gelato consistency to serve to your guests.
This is a keeper, but not sure how long they will last in the Cupertino location.

I was a little excited when I visited I Love Yogurt because I've never had frozen yogurt before. I used to really hate everything that had anything to do with yogurt, but over the years I've gradually loosened my yogurt embargo. Now, I love things like yogurt covered raisins, yogurt sauces, yogurt as a baking ingredient and yogurt as a marinade (tandoori). Oddly, I still don't like plain yogurt because of its slimy consistency (I have no problem with natto, though) and because I hate foods that straddle the line between sweet and savory (Choose a side damn it!). However, I am happy to say that frozen yogurt has been added to the list of yogurt related foods that I like despite disliking the main ingredient. It is not slimy and it is clearly sweet!
The other reviews weren't exaggerating when they said this place has huge serving sizes. I intentionally had a light dinner in anticipation of my first taste of frozen yogurt, and I still just barely managed to finish the final spoonful. I had the 'cookies and cream', which looked and tasted more like a blend of vanilla and chocolate as there were no chunks of cookie or anything, just smooth frozen creaminess. I'd probably go with another flavor the next time. The yogurt has a really prominent 'milk' taste, which is very nice, like drinking a cool, tall glass of the white stuff.
This dessert obviously isn't as decadent as Haagen-Dazs, but once you've polished off about a pint of it (which is what a 'small' seems to be here), you won't miss the butter fat. This frozen yogurt also isn't too sweet, which may be a plus considering how much of it you may end up eating if you have no self control like me.
The interior is tidy and clean and the servers seemed pleasant and enthusiastic (based on the 30 seconds I spent inside the place). They seemed to be doing pretty good business for a Wednesday night, because I saw a steady trickle of customers go inside while I was chowing down in the parking lot.
To sum it all up, it may not be ultra delicious, but I still recommend I Love Yogurt for it's super-sized servings of seemingly semi-healthy (the yogurt is either 98% fat-free of totally fat-free depending on the flavor, I believe) dairy goodness. |
