I don't remember how we ended up at Kitsho in Cupertino. Someone wanted japanese food and that was that. I could swear google maps was off by a block or two, probably should have gotten written directions instead of looking directly on the image. The atmosphere was nice with scattered tables, a sushi bar, and private booths. Packed place is always a welcoming sign, so far so good.

chicken katsu - a bunch of cutup pieces in the corner box of my bento. Breaded and crunchy, i think it was thigh meat. Good to eat.

tekka maki - 6 small rolls, taste fine to me. No complaints

hamachi - thinly cut, barely any rice which is great, nice dab of green underneath for the heat, reasonable melting of the fish. Only complaint was the giant blood line on one of the cuts. Its just my preference but I dont like the taste of fish blood, it was a thick slab of red....blllaaahh

It was a lighter lunch and was able to stay away at work...no food coma here. Prices were just right for lunch and service was great but the wait on our food was long. I can't really rate the sushi as the majority of my meal was the bento box. For the bento box, there's no hesitations on coming back to Kitsho.

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 7/10/2006 - 8 Rating: ***I don't have updated pictures for this meal***

Came back for the sushi but I only had $15 on me :( I order the Sushi Sashimi bento box. I came here with a group of people and unfortunately, service was slow. Lunch rush was in full effect and getting our menus, waters, and food was at a snail's pace. They had to be short 2-3 waiters. Maybe they were hanging out in the backroom busy playing Nintendo DS.

After waiting which appeared like eternity, my bento box arrives.

ebi nigiri - sweet, slightly chilled, very good

saba nigiri - I never order this stuff because it's one of the gamiest fish. normally served with skin on. I hate to say it but it was impressively good. Much better than anywhere else.

sake nigiri - it's like butter, excellent, beautiful white striping against the orange, favorite of the meal. my tiny tiny request would be to serve it just a little colder

tai nigiri - knockout, super good, 3rd favorite

maguro - deep red color, nice workmanship on the cut, slight melting effect

All the nigiri pieces had perfect amount of rice and wasabe. rice was excellent mix of sugar and vinegar. cuts of fish were just the right size....all bite sized like they are suppose to be.

maguro sashimi - my least favorite of the lunch. I always order maguro but this batch had a hint of blood taste. I wasn't too fond of the cut. very deep red color, 3 small pieces.

suzuki sashimi - cut much thinner than maguro, some scales, white with some pink areas, fresh and delicious

tekka maki - another favorite of mine, tightly rolled, great mix of rice and fish, no complaints, only praise.

Overall the sushi was near great. With the exception of the maguro sashimi, all pieces of fish were near flawless. I would have raised my score to 8.5 but the service was just too slow. Other than that, Kitsho is a solid sushi place and will most likely rank higher if you order at the bar. If I had more money I would have ordered the Omakase.

We stopped by Kitsho which was not too far from our work. The place seemed a bit old, but very clean. Service was quick and attentive.

I went with the Salmon Teriyaki and an order of Kani and California rolls.

The miso came out first and it was steaming hot. Among the hottest, but all the flavor was there. Good stuff.

Then the rolls came out. The Kani was immitation and very uninspiring. The California rolls were decent but lacking in flavor (same Kani in them). I've had much better elsewhere.

The Salmon teriyaki was decent. A good cut and a flavorful taste. Overall, though, I just couldn't get too excited about it. I'm sure from a more traditional sushi standpoint its probably a pretty good place, but for me, I found it to be just average. The cleanliness was there. The menu wasn't large, but covered all the bases. I was just hoping for a bit more.

Best Sushi in Cupertino in my opinion.

I was introduced to Kitsho by a friend/client of mine, after living in Cupertino for all these years I have never discovered Kitsho. It's hidden in a neighborhood of all things, but worth the hunt.

We went through the menu and a couple cases of Ashai, I ate everything from monk fish liver, a soup you poured out of a kettle, and sashimi served with fresh grated wasabi. Everytime I see fresh grated wasabi I become excited...its texture, taste, and pleasure that it adds to the over all experience is just hard to describe. A rare treat in the bay area.

Howard-san, much like steve over at sawa sushi, instructs us on how to eat certain cuts and dishes that he has prepared. unlike steve he won't protest if you insist on drowning it in that wasabi soy paste so many people pride themselves with. Either way...you have to love both these figures.

I had experienced a wonderful dinner where I learned more then I expected, tasted new dishes that I've never heard about and had a conversation as mentally challenging as the plane on a conveyer belt conundrum. I left overly full, happy, and nearly drunk. There was nothing not to like.

I'd go here every oppertunity I'd get.

omakase - oOooOoOoo!!!!

Besides the soup that came in a teapot & scallions rolled in grilled beef we decided to let them guide our culinary experience and told them to feed us sushi and sashimi. it wasn't cheap, but absolutely delicious. the cuts of toro itself was worth i
