Who would have known a french bakery existed in Cupertino? Located in the same shopping center as Ramen Rama and Red Miso, you'll spot La Patisserie a short distance away. We walked in and immediately greeted with nice people behind the counter. She must have said a couple of things to me but they went in 1 ear and out the other, I was in a sugar trance. You should see all the beautiful pastry and cake decorations! Omg, I was blown away, I haven't seen great stuff like this since Brugge and Paris. We must have stood there for quite a few minutes making the toughest decision on what to order.
Everything looks appetizing to the point of looking too nice to eat. I narrowed it down between the Tiramisu and Turtle Cheesecake. I would have ordered both but I had eaten a huge lunch at Red Miso. I settled with the Turtle Cheesecake in picture #9.
Turtle Cheesecake - sort of a oreo cookie crust, thick slab of cheesecake. topped off with pecans, caramel, and mini chocolate chips. Just listing the ingredients you would think it would taste like heaven? Well, it did and boooooyyy was it rich tasting. The treadmill is calling my name and wants to schedule a 5-mile run later on. Served at the right temperature and presentation was something to look at. It was wonderful. If I recall correctly, it costs under $5.
I feel guilty for rating La Patisserie a 9, this place probably deserves a 9.5 but I'll need to make a couple of more visits. I am extremely happy on what I tried today and you can be sure I'll be returning for their delectable goodies. If you're sweet tooth in Cupertino or nearby city, due yourself a favor and visit La Patisserie, you'll thank us later. Kudos to Jen for submitting this beautiful gem.

Wow, this place is amazing. I have been to many bakeries, and usually if you are not ordering a cake its kind of an awkward experience with lousy selection and questionable quality. La Patisserie is simply not that way. You can easily walk in there, order a dessert, and eat there or take it with you. The selections all appeared to be fresh and high quality, and the craftsmanship a step (or 8) above any other standard bakeries. I went with an eclair this time around and ate it there.
I ate it quickly, and to be honest, the design was better than Vienna Bakery in Fremont, but the taste was not up to par. The thing that saved me was that Jason only ate half of his cheesecake. This could be totally gross, but if you saw this cheesecake you would have done it too.
Unbelievable. Probably one of the best cheesecakes I have eaten. So rich and the maple flavor on top with nuts was so indulging. The crust on the bottom was also quite tasty and held the whole thing together in a flavorful combination of goodness.
I can't wait to review more restaurants in the complex so I can get dessert at La Patisserie.

Sweet accomplishments deserve sweet rewards. Having reached 100 reviews, I treated myself to some scrumptious desserts at La Patisserie. Actually I just purchased some tickets at the Tech Museum for Superman Returns (buy 1 get 1 free), and decided to swing on by on my way home.
I arrive around 1:30pm and a few people finished ordering their desserts. I knew what I wanted in advance having read the reviews and decided on the Tiramisu (4.50) and Chocolate Dome (4.25). The prices are a bit high but expected as prices include taste and craftsmanship.
Tiramisu had excellent flavor as described by jsatre. A thick coco powder coating on top, moist layers of lady fingers with cream, and the bottom layer is where the espresso is soaked in but not excessive to the point of being wet or runny. Usually I get a little overwhelmed eating too much Tiramisu as sometimes there is just too much of it. The portions here were a good amount but not excessive. One of the best I have had as the Tiramisu was not too sweet, not soaked by espresso and a generous topping of coco powder. (9/10)
Chocolate Dome: When I opened the box, my dome had tipped over during the drive and the chocolate layer was extremely soft to the point of melting. The chocolate dome consists of a dark chocolate surrounding, filled with a dark chocolate cake as the bottom layer, white chocolate ganache, and another coco chocolate ganache within white chocolate ganache. The white chocolate ganache tasted near consistency to marshmallow fluff, but a not as airy. Chocolate dome was not too sweet. (9/10)
Be aware that these desserts do not travel well. It is best to eat it there. They tape the dessert place setters down to the box but the desserts themselves could still move and top over like my Chocolate Dome. In addition, if you live far away these desserts could melt, especially the chocolate ones.
I did not see any credit card stickers at the door. They offer whole cakes as well but not sure how well that will travel. I do not think you can leave these cakes sitting out too long without refrigeration. Great dessert place to take a date if you are in the mood to splurge!

La Patisserie is a cross between gorgeous artwork and sinfully dessert heaven!!
I'm in awe that Jason and Terry didn't know about this fab-u place, being so close to their work turf... Thank goodness for Jatbar and the wishlist.
Where to start??! I can walk into this place and be stunned, GAWD... what to order? everything looks so extraordinatory and I know, from past experience will be just as lucious at each bite. Just look at the pictures J&T took.
On my most recent visit a few weeks back I was close to full after Rama Ramen. But, there was no way I would pass up a trip to La Patisserie. I decided on taking a few items home. No sense looking like a deer in headlights to the staff, there was a line behind me. I took home a brownie, a lemon bar, a creme brulee tart, a creme puff and the piece I had my eye on, a tiramisu.
Brownie - Looked devine, but my husband snagged it. I didn't even get a crumb!
Lemon Bar - Lucious! They must make their own lemon curd, perfectly tart and sweet without being too much. A perfect crisp shortbread crust... 9.5/10
Creme Brulee Tart - wow! A thick all-butter crust surrounding a vanilla creme brulee? Homer drool... Loved every bite. The crust may have been a little too thick however. 9/10
Tiramisu - I should preface this by saying I am PICKY about tiramisu. Some are too sweet, too sticky, too soaked by espresso... This was a home run! The amount of marsapone cheese folded with whipped cream was just right, perfectly moist but not dripping lady fingers with espresso and dark run. Even the quality of cocoa dusting on top was excellent. This is a bakery that does nothing but top quality. I have found the PERFECT tiramisu. This is the kind of dessert that makes your eyes close with true satisfaction, at each bite. 10/10
Worth the drive, every time!!! My favorite, favorite bakery. Mom's 60th birthday cake has got to be a La Patisserie cake.
Welcome J&T! ;-) -Jen
***Update 6.11.06***
I picked up a flourless chocolate cake from La Patisserie Yesterday for a friend's birthday and GAWD... It was extraordinary... I've never tasted anything better... perfect perfect perfect... Seriously the best chocolate cake I have ever eaten. Might have been the truffle filling or the mocha butter cream, maybe the chocolate curls dusted with bittersweet cocoa... And again the shingles semi and white chocolate square shingles around the edge of the cake might have put it over the top.. I can't be sure. It was just amazing... ;) |

I've been here about 3 times and I usually don't buy pastries (on a diet here). Each time I've gone, the staff was conversational, friendly and very helpful. The artistry of the pastries are also very pleasing to the eye, especially that chocolate bag one!
As for taste, well, it's as decadent as chocolate can be. I was with my best friend the last time I went, and it was to do a little celebration for another friend who had passed away two years ago. He would've turned 19. We enjoyed the cakes in his memory, and boy it was good =]. I would definately buy one of their beautiful pastries, stick a candle in it, and surprise a friend for a birthday. |
