We were in dire need of a short lunch and Terry suggested going to Simply Thai on Stevens Creek across the street from De Anza College. Never heard about this place before, not even sure how long they have been here. With no expectations, I blindly ordered and wanted to try something I've never had before, green curry noodle soup vegetarian style.

At $7.95, the bowl is laced with a creamy curry sauce with a mix of tofu and all types of vegetables. For noodles, I choose the Vermicelli style noodles which is identical to pho noodles. They say it's suppose to be spicy and the only thing hot about this dish is the frickin' temperature. It was scalding hot and nearly believed there were lava rocks at the bottom of the bowl. It took me 2x as long to finish but I would happily have it served this hot again over lukewarm bowl.

I could only guess what they put in this curry sauce. I'm praying it wasn't entirely loaded with butter or some type of animal fat. Curry flavoring wasn't as strong as a normal curry would be, probably has to do with the creamy mixture. For vegetables, I spotted a colorful array of carrots, eggplant, bell peppers, broccoli, onions, mushrooms, and green beans. Some of the vegetables were added towards the end of cooking as it was apparent in the firmness of the vegetables.

I might be too picky about this but don't you just hate seeing the package texture of tofu? You know the grid marks from the plastic packaging?

Overall a very tasty dish, nothing mind blowing but worthy of a repeat order. Service was perfectly fine and dining atmosphere had beautiful photographs of Thailand. Prices are reasonable and delivery of food was fast. If I'm short on time and wanting Thai food, I'd be willing to come back.

I had no idea about this place until someone mentioned it to me. I put it on the list and held off for a bit, hoping to hear any other good news about it. Nothing emerged so I convinced Jason we should try it out. Turns out it wasn't a bad destination. Given its proximity to DeAnza college (right across the street, next to the Hobees) its a decidedly younger crowd (though we have no problems hanging out with the younger folks - we blend right in) lol

The place had a minimalist, but upscale feel to it. The menu even was not your normal Thai monster manual compendium of the complete thai food experience. In it were carefully selected dishes and quite a few unique creations. I was excited to see that straying from the normal vibe to the place.

For this visit, however, I went with the (seemingly) mundane tofu pad thai. I wanted to try the basics for this visit. The lunch special included salad and soup. The soup was your standard spicy thai soup I have had at numerous other places. Not bad, but a bit thin on flavor. I barely even remember the salad these few days later.

The pad thai arrived and it was definitely a good portion size. It defnitely was loaded with more veggies than I had seen before which was good. I really liked the mushrooms in there, a unique find. The noodles and sauce however were a bit bland and uninspired. I think it needed a little more pizzazz.

I am kind of knocking the score down to a 7 because of this, but looking at Jason's order I would definitely go with his selection next time. Looked a lot more tasty. So I am holding out hope for this place and will return to try something else next time and most likely raise my score. They have potential.
