This came in as a wishlist request eons ago and I finally made it up to Emeryville to review this one. Rudys is located near Pixar studios up there and claims as its co-owner Mike Dirnt, bassist for Green Day.

We arrived (it wasn't that hard to find at all really) and the place looks very clean on the outside. There is a parking lot, but its quite small so we had to park a few blocks down on the street and walk over. Not too bad.

We get in and are instantly shown a table (we arrived about 2pm). The place is very clean inside as well, has a homey feel to it, somewhat classy-diner feel. Also has a somewhat modern punk-infused, cool place to see and be seen feel to it as well.

The wife and I sit down (with the 2 kids) and are instantly brought cheerios for the kids and kid waters. NICE. The waitress asks for our drinks. I go with a wheat beer, and the wife goes with Pabst Blue Ribbon (in the can). Gawd. Well, they offer it. As well as Olympia in the can. And a few other beers and drinks. Anyway, we look over the menu and its definitely got something for everyone. The burgers, especially, was quite a selection. I decided to go with the Cajun Burger (and substituting in a Boca patty instead). My wife went with the Big Blue burger. The kids weren't too hungry so just shared off our plates.

We sat around and took in the surroundings. There is a collection of Barbie dolls enclosed in glass cases. Some of the wait staff had full-on tattoos and piercings. Definitely a punk type of place. The tables had various board games and other trinkets inside of them (like a Monopoly board). There were polaroids of staff and customers strewn across the walls. Very interesting place to just look around in.

The food arrived fairly quickly and we munched on them. I found the Cajun burger to be tasty. Not the best burger I've had, but still pretty good. I would order it again. The wife rated her Big Bleu burger better than St Johns. I said 'Come on, that isn't saying much?' and she said ok - better than Clarkes.

The fries that came with the burgers, tho, were fantastic. Probably the best thin cut fries I have ever had. They were deep fried with batter on them (which I've had before) but nothing quite as addictive as these. I could have ordered just a plate of fries and been satisfied. My son was munching on my fries like crazy too. Definitely needed more of those!

The prices are kind of high here with burgers in the $8-$10 range, and you don't really get enough food to justify those prices, but still it was very tasty and quite an experience compared to a standard burger place.

Much to my sons disappointment, Mike Dirnt was not there this day, but I'm sure he leaves the day-to-day to Rudy - especially while on tour with Green Day. We picked up some cool Rudys shirts before we headed out. We'll be back.
