Congratulations to Bobs Giant Burgers for lasting over 40 years against chains like Burger King and McDonalds. If you have ever been to Fremont, the city caters to fast food or chain restaurants. Its hard to find independent burger stands. The lines at Bobs Giant Burger can get long, its best to call in your order before hand. Be sure to pick up your order on time of your burger gets soggy.

So heres the dealio, I went with the bacon cheeseburger.

bun - sesame bun, your standard supermarket bun

meat - I think they are 1-3 lb, not crumbly, about the same grade as a carls jr meat. kind of greasy, soaked into the bun

veggies - tomatoes were overripe, lettuce was wilted and watery, onions are overwhelming

bacon - the best part of the burger, thick cut, oh bacon is good...

secret sauce - thousand island dressing, a little heavy on the serving

fries - ok

onion rings - nothing special, I dont think I would order this again. So greasy...you can almost see through the batter

Overall, Bobs Giant Burgers are good but not great. Its good to support your local restaurants, keeps a variety of places to choose from. From the standpoint of burgers though, Ill be honest, you can enjoy better burgers from chains like, Red Robbins, Fuddruckers, and Nations.

Went here yesterday when my son was in the mood for a burger. I even broke down and went with a cheeseburger. Overall, I was impressed. Last time I was here was probably 94 or 95. Burgers are huge, but again they aren't cheap either. The bun was fresh, veggies crisp, patty was a little thin with not a whole lot of flavor. Fries were the standout here. They were thick cut, with a good amount of salt and tasted excellent. I went with a vanilla shake too. It was your run of the mill. Not sure I would order it again as it was super hard to get through the straw.

As a side note, Bob passed away earlier this month (the newspaper clipping was freshly posted in the window. I am glad to see his daughters are continuing to run the burger locations, keeping the local business going strong.

Second side note. Across the street is a Hostess store. Hadn't been to one of these in YEARS. Imagine a full store devoted to Hostess twinkies and other snacks. Its a really odd type of place. But a good place to pick up a dessert if you are in the mood. My son finished his meal off with an ice cream sandwich from there.

I've stopped by Bob's Giant Burgers a few times and the burgers are just okay. They are big, but not the biggest I've had, and there wasn't anything that set it apart from any other burger stand.

The pie's are really good though, and I've sampled a variety of them over the years. Other than that, I wasn't too impressed and I'd rather run over to In-N-Out.
