Thanks to Danny for the suggestion. He actually suggested the one in hayward since he felt the steak there as not as dry - but after looking at the map to the Hayward location - it was a far drive for me and being that it was less than a block from Jonathans . . . there was just no way I would drive all that distance to this place on the weekend and not get Jonathans. I'm sorry, but thats the honest truth.

I had been here once in the mid-90s and thought it was OK, but obviously not enough that I would find myself returning until today. I went here with the kids and they ordered the cheeseburger and chicken strips - while I went with the signature Philly Cheese Steak.

While waiting for our food, I looked around the place - there is quite a collection of hot sauces lining the walls and tables. It is quite cool to see the sheer number of various types of sauce.

Wait wasn't too long, even though there were quite a few call in orders that were being prepared at the same time.

The chicken strips were super thin and looked really odd - more like fish n chips than chicken. Cheeseburger looked completely plain and not something I would ever enjoy eating here - but the kids liked it.

Philly Cheese steak consisted of the fresh bread (which was tasty), the steak, and cheese with some grilled onions in there. Overall it was good, but $7, it was not a cheap lunch. Nor completely filling. It was a little on the small side. Steak was just OK. I'm not a big steak fan in general and there certainly wasn't anything to write home about here. I was thinking back to Dannys comment and would have to agree that it was a little dry. Personally i would have preferred more cheese and onion and less steak but I'm probably in the minority there.

Fries were your thick cut variety and didn't taste like the frozen deep fried type that they were. Quite flavorful.

For the three of us, the bill was $20 for lunch. Ouch. I heard a few people ordering the teriyaki cheese steak when i was there - so I wonder how the other less traditional varieties stack up. I am willing to return to try any other recommended items, but I think I am pretty ambivalent about the Philly Cheese Steak.
