This was my first visit to El Patio but I had heard good things about it from a Jatbar agent so decided to give it a try. I must say I was duly impressed. The menu and cooking style seems taken directly from La Casita in southern Fremont. And thats a good thing. The interior is completely different however. While El Patio is more open and airy, La Casita is more cramped and homey. I prefer La Casita, but I can see how someone would prefer the clean location here at El Patio. The menu was extensive and they gave you a lot of food in your dish.

I ordered the double cheese enchilada dish (same thing I order at La Casita) and it came with 2 huge gooey enchiladas that were very tasty. Combined with beans and spanish rice. They were also both very good, though maybe a notch below La Casita in quality. Still quite good however.

I wouldn't hesitate to return to sample more of the great menu at El Patio.

For some reason, I always have the impression that Mexican food is only worth being rated 'good' if it is also cheap. This place was a little more up there - a typical two item combo dish ranged from $7-9 instead of the $5 that I love to pay. My friend and I shared the super quesadilla ($2.75) and a 2 item combo ($8.50).

The two item combo consisted of a tamale and chicken enchilada (among many of the typical options such as a burrito, taco, flautas, etc.) along with rice and beans. I like to say that everything was very cheesy. There was even cheese mixed throughout every bite of rice. There was cheese on the beans and there was cheese on the enchilada. The tamale, however, did not have as much cheese. Don't get me wrong though, I love cheese.

The super quesadilla consisted of shredded beef and some more cheese with sides of sour cream, guacamole and shredded lettuce. The guacamole appeared a little darker in color which led me to guess that it was homemade. Bright guacamole always leaves me questioning how it can stay so green.

This restaurant was slightly difficult to find because the name of the restaurant doesn't stand out. However, the restaurant itself is very spacious and there's even a banquet room to your right (upon entrance) for parties and such. In the center of the restaurant, there's a fire pit that was burning even when I went for a weekday lunch. Makes me think that it could've been a steakhouse in it's past life.

Nonetheless, I'd take someone here if I was in the area but it didn't stand out as any particularly special restaurant for any particularly special food. Maybe I didn't order the right thing? When it comes to Mexican food, I like to order the same thing, especially enchiladas, not only because it's one of my favorite items but so I can compare it. Second visits allow me to be more adventurous and perhaps there will be one but not anytime soon.

chicken Tacos platter & chicken quesdilla

The prices are reasonable and I really like their chicken tacos & their soup. My wife and I like to go there about once a month for some good food at good prices.
