I had high hopes for Estebans as its been a LONG time since I have been here. I don't think I've been here since I discovered La Bamba and the beauty of the Peninsula burrito. The guy grills up his meats fresh every morning, so I feel a little leery walking in there and ordering a super veggie burrito. That is what I did though. The tiny place was packed with people ordering and eating. The place was filled with smoke from the grill and was decorated with lots of curiosities from autographed portraits to the local high school wrestling schedule from 96-97.

My burrito came out to $4. Not a bad deal. The thing was huge. Not a nice tube like most burritos, more of a squat burrito. It was packed with lots of rice and beans primarily but also some sour cream, salsa, tomatoes, cilantro, etc.

I bit into it and was instantly unimpressed. Maybe its just their veggie burrito, I'm sure thing to order here is the meats. The rice was white rice with pepper in it. Not bad but a little weird in a burrito. The beans were standard pinto, nothing special. The salsa and sour cream were not apparant in any kind of abundance in this burrito. It was the dryest burrito I have ever tasted.

My recommendation is to order a meat burrito, regular without the rice and beans and I think this burrito would be a LOT better. For my dining experience, however, I cannot rate them very high. Sorry.

I loved eating here when I was in high school. The burritos were cheap, the carne asada was tender, and the place was always packed. I liked the salsa on the table that you could add to your burrito. It made them more dynamic, spicy, moist, flavorful.

I tried to eat here last year when I was taking a class at Ohlone, but sadly I was ignored for about 20 minutes, which is hard seeing as the inside of the place is the size of a bathroom. I was really irritated because no one said anything to me, and the owner was chatting with some customers. I gave up trying to get a burrito, and I left and got one back in San Jose.

I was disapointed in the service, but I remember it being an inexpensive burrito, yet pleasing my palette. One day I will attempt to eat there again. Oh yes, I believe that they are cash only as I've had several failed attempts to eat there in the past year or so. Woe is me.
