I frequented Gaters quite a bit in Fremont. It was one of the only fast food mediterranean places that I could rely on. Even better was the fact that Baskin Robbins was next door...great compliment to any meal (pistacio almond all the way). You know that green ice cream with almonds even though the ice cream is Pistacio?? Ok, enough of my gibberish...

The meal I usually ordered is the steak wrap..aka...swarma on lavish bread. Its quite good but I always forget to get it without parseley. I load up on too much of that stuff. Hummos is a little runny and the lavash gets soggy towards the bottom. One wrap will fill you up.

Prices are fairly cheap and food is consistent with every visit. Give Gaters a try.

I wasn't planning on going to Gaters, but we were running errands in the area and I was without a camera yet a Falafal sandwich was too good to turn down. I am hoping to return tomorrow to sample the Sushi restaurant next door and will take some pics of Gaters then.

The place looks very legit. The grill comprises a large portion of the restaurant with only a few tables to sit down and eat. I ordered the Falafel wrap and sat back and watched him drop the raw falafel balls in the oil to cook them. The friendly owners chatted with us all the time. Seems like a friendly middle eastern place run by a family making their mark in Bay Area cuisine. I can definitely support this.

How did it taste? Incredible. Maybe a shade below the quality of Falafel Drive In and thats saying a lot. The whole thing tasted very fresh and warm and moist. There was some spice to it but no cop-out hot sauce. It just had a mystical warmth to it. Also were some pickles in there! Right on! Great stuff. I will definitely be returning again.

I've eaten here a few times over the years, and each time I've gotten the falafel wrap, or just stopped by for a side of falafel balls.

The wraps are a hit or miss with me, I've had really good wraps where everything was nice and moist, and I've come on days where the falafel balls were dry and I had to ask for extra tahini to choke them down. *cough*

Overall, they have a great selection, and their meat is roasted all day so it's nice and tender. Their falafels are usually pretty good, and they are pretty big. I like how they are wraps instead of in a pita because when I eat a pita, the pita always ends up breaking and all the contents inside falls out. Also I'm not big on bread and their wraps are thin, so you get more of the inside. I would go back if I was in the area and craving some falafel, but it's not anywhere near me and there is better falafel closer to where I live.

This place was not bad. I heard the ownership changed and the quality of the food went down but since it was my first time, I was unable to compare it anything but other Mediterranean restaurants I've been to.

I had gyros and it seemed slightly barren. There were 4 strips of meat, some slices of onions and maybe 2 slices of tomatoes in it. I can't remember but I think there was some sauce in there somewhere. The bread was very good: soft and warm. Definitely nothing too extravagant but I'd go there again for a quick bite.

I think I'll have to try some other things on their menu to determine a more accurate overall restaurant rating.

Babaghanouj

I always order the babaghanouj at Gaters, and it never disappoints! One tip...If you're ordering hummus or baba ask for the gyro pitas not the dipping pitas. If you've never had babaghanouj...try it and you'll never go back to hummus!
