I heard about Gen Ramen on an online forum so decided to check it out. The forum did not list anything specific good or bad about it, just that it was there. A Ramen place near my house? I had to check it out!

The selection was decent if a bit small in non-meat options. I went for the Vegetable Ramen selection which for a small came in at a steep $7. It took awhile to arrive which seemed a bit odd to me but I was really in no hurry.

The bowl arrived and it looked tasty. I started eating it and it just tasted rather ordinary. The soup base was light as you can see in the pics so maybe that was part of it. The ingredients altogether just tasted like something that maybe I could have thrown together at home. I was not blown away by the quality of the noodles or the soup base. It was all a good meal but nothing I would find myself hungering for in a few days. I'll be the first to admit that my ramen knowledge is pretty sparse as I've only been to a handful of places so my opinion is probably not worth much here, but my opinion is my opinion and I'm standing by it.

Gen Original (tonkotsu)

The original and tonkotsu ramens are some of the best and most authentic ramens available in the Bay Area. I think that they are currently better than both Ryowa and Ichi Maru.
