Talk about major growing pains.

Jatbar got La Fajita as a request through the Jatboard from Paul. I was anxious to try out a good mexican restaurant and hadn't been to Niles in awhile, so the family hopped in the Jatmobile and headed over.

We get there, and the place is busy. VERY busy. NICE. This is definitely a good sign. Paul had heard good stuff about their food as well so something must be right.

We wait for the waitress. Then wait. Then wait. Oh my god. We waited.

Finally she seats us in the only 4-person table available in the corner. She puts some menus on the table. And we wait. And wait. No waters. Just waiting. The waitress (who seemed EXTREMELY overworked) was rushing from table to table obviously busy. Hated to bother her to get some water. The other two people working the room seemed to not speak any english, and just stood around as this other lady (who did speak english) was motoring all over the place.

It was at this point we started to think about leaving. Finally my son was really thirsty so I went up to one of the non-english speaking waiters and said Agua and finally got us some water. About 10 minutes later, the overworked waitress came over to us and we placed our orders. I went with a Super Veggie burrito, the wife went with Carne Asada Chips, and my son went with Cheese Quesodilla. My wife asked for beer. No alcohol yet. Ouch. My wife likes a beer with dinner. No beer = many bad looks at and unhappiness for Terry. I think my family was ready to leave me here and drive away at this point.

I am feeling very bad and it was at this point we were thinking about leaving again. People were still pouring into the restaurant, many standing around without tables waiting. The overworked waittress is running around with plates to hand to tables, asking us if we ordered x y or z. No we didn't. OK, and she's off to find who ordered the plate.

I was able to snatch a few glances back at the kitchen and the guys back there seemed to have their stuff together. They were whipping up plates quickly and efficiently, and mighty tasty looking. Quite a contast to the frantic (and lethargic) wait staff.

Our food arrived surprisingly quickly after our order was submitted to the kitchen. It arrived and we started eating. My wife's disappointed melted away. She quickly admitted that the food was VERY good. My veggie burrito was not bad. Not the best I had but it was good. If the service was better, I would bump up my review to an 8.5.

Another downside, and this may be temporary as well - they only accepted cash.

We went here about 2 weeks ago and since then my wife has stopped by there for takeout of her Carne Asada chips once more. And I had another tasty super veggie burrito. So we haven't given up on this place. If we hear that the service was improved and they have beer, then we'll come back and I'll update my review.
