While visiting some friends in Fremont, we decided to get some filipino food at Maharlika. Located in the centerville district, this restaurant is located in the corner of a strip mall. The restaurant has a family feel to it with a couple of tables and a television playing against one of the walls. Prices are very cheap for the amount of food you receive. Ordering to go can take awhile since most of the stuff is cooked right after you order. Just take a seat and watch the filipino channel.

If you have never ordered filipino food, let me suggest a couple of safe items for your taste buds. Go for the Lumpia Shanghai, Pancit Gisado, and Chicken or Pork Adobo. Im very familiar with filipino food and went with the beef Caldereta, pork sinigang, lumpia, and 10 piece chicken.

Beef Caldereta - very good. beef cooked with potatoes, tomato sauce, onions,
peas, and other fine goodies (see picture #8). Beef was tender but a bit fatty on some pieces. Taste like homecooking.

Pork Sinigang - soup or broth was excellent...sour and filled with lots of flavor. tamarind and mixed vegetables make this soup a favorite among filipinos. I like this dish served with pork ribs to the point where the meat falls off the bones. Unfortunately, the meat was tough and tasted old, like it had been sitting all day. Broth was awesome but meat was below average. I would give this another try. (See picture #9)

Lumpia - cant go wrong with these. Think mini eggrolls with pork beef mixture. These tasted like the frozen ones you can get at the filipino mart..which is fine. (See picture #6)

Fried Chicken - dark meat cut into small sections. Batter is probably flour and salt leaving the skin extra crunchy. This type of chicken taste really good with hot sauce and steamed rice.

I would definitely come back to Maharlika as I enjoyed the filipino cuisine. If you go, be prepared to bring an appetite as the portions are gigantic. Hopefully they will have Lechon on my next visit, they ran out when I was there.
