$6.47 for a all you can pizza buffet at Mountain Mikes in Mountain View, from 11AM-2PM. Included in the buffet special; drinks, breadsticks, salad, and all you can eat pizza. With empty stomachs, we were ready to mount the pizza assault at high noon.

We got there kind of early so they only had about 2 pizzas out and were probably sitting for awhile. I cant really grade them on heat lamp style pizza but its definitely better tasting than any Pizza Hut or Dominos style pizza. I must have made about 4 trips to the pizza bar. I did get to try a fresh pizza and that was twice as good heat lamp pizza.

Crust - somewhere inbetween new york and chicago? I guess its medium thickness. I liked

Sauce - could have used more, not too gourmet tasting

Cheese - standard cheese.

For $7, its hard to beat this all you eat buffet with above average tasting pizza. Im probably not being fair to judge the buffet pizza versus the menu pizza, but there pizza tastes like a 7.5. Im sure it rates higher if I get menu pizza so dont hestiate to try Mountain Mikes.

This place is primarily a bay area chain and all of the locations taste about equal quality in my book. The crust is not as good as say Tony & Albas or Skips but the rest of the ingredients are top-notch (better than the previous two mentioned) and quite tasty. I invariably go for the cheese pizza, though sometimes with extra cheese. I find it rather easy to polish off a half-medium size pizza in one sitting its that good. They have delivery as well as take-out and of course large accomodations for sit-in dining as well. Beers on tap are a plus as well as the salad bar (all you can eat). Definitely give them a shot before you place a call to Pizza Hut or Dominos, you'll be glad you did.

I've tried Mountain Mike's in several locations, Fremont, Concord, San Jose, Morgan Hill, etc. I really like lunch buffet, however I've only really enjoyed it at the Fremont and Concord locations. It's a good deal either way because it's pizza, make your own salad, and some mixed salads (potato, macaroni, fruit, etc).

Their buffet can be iffy depending on when you go in. They usually put out two different pizzas, and if you get there late they may be sitting there for a while getting cold, and they won't put anything new out there until those are gone. Also if you don't like the toppings of the pizza that is set out, you have to wait until someone else finishes what's out there. The salad bar can get messy if there are kids eating. I've seen kids stick their hands in the salad toppings, or mix the contents of the containers together, which takes away from the appeal of eating there. If it's not too busy, an employee will go to the salad bar and clean it up, but if it is busy, the bar is neglected.

The redeeming factor for me is their pepperoni. I really like how it curls up around the edges and gets crunchy. They also have a pretty good delivery range, so when I am lazy I'll get a pepperoni, tomato, and artichoke heart pizza delivered and it's awesome as well as convenient.

Mountain Mikes Pizza (Saratoga location)

If there ever was a spokes person for Mountain Mikes, it would have to go something like this. “At Mountain Mikes, we only use fresh ingredients. We pile our pizza high with your favorite toppings. Stop by at any one of our locations to try one of our specialty pizzas. Were a crust above the other chains.”

My friend and I grabbed a large Pineapple Chicken Luau for $15.99 with coupon and an order of Buffalo wings and two drinks. Fountain drinks are unlimited but you cant refill yourself. The restaurant is practically empty, a small TV hangs from the corner, and video game machines are in the back room. Lunch buffet is a whopping $7.55, which includes pizza, salad (skimpy), and a “whole lot more” as Im not sure what more there could be.

Buffalo wings are a rip-off. Six wings/drums are served on a thin paper plate. Most likely store bought and heated up in the microwave or some oven. Skip and get your own. The pizza on the other hand is impressive. We had a good amount of leftovers, well over 6 slices to take home. The Pineapple Chicken Luau consists of BBQ sauce, Cheese, Pineapple, diced grilled chicken, and bacon. The crust is medium, as its in between thin and thick. I like crispy crusts, so the crust here was only half way impressive as some slices had a nice crunchy crust at the tip while other slices the crust didnt crunch. The crust is hard to describe as its not crunchy, but not chewy, but felt like eating day old flat bread.

The pizza had plenty of toppings and they even brushed BBQ sauce up to the rim of the crust. This pizza is way better than other chain restaurant pizza. If compared to Round Table, I would prefer round table crust, and toppings are about the same except specialty pizzas are “exclusive” to Mountain Mikes where as specialty pizzas at RT is not as “exclusive”.

Once the pizza gets cold, its harder to heat up and get a nice crunch or soft crust taste, the crust is definitely different.

Great pizza for take out, not so much for dine-in as youre more subjected to ordering appetizers that are not worth the price. Then again the pizza needs to be eaten hot out of the oven, due to the special crust.

Return visit as long as I can get coupons.
