For me, noodle houses can be a hit or a (BIG) miss. Luckily New Tung Kee is a hit with me. I ordered the #67 (Egg Noodle Soup with Vegetables and Tofu). It only cost me $4.50 (bargain) and arrived in about 12 nanoseconds. Amazingly fast. Gotta love that.
How did it taste? Really good. It needed some pick-me-up in the form of Sriracha but that was okay. The only thing that bothered me was the chicken broth. Hopefully it won't adversely affect me. Otherwise I was very pleased with the meal. I ordered the large and had to leave a good chunk of it.
I also ordered the Thai Iced Tea. It was tasty but they threw in entirely too much ice in my drink. The regular hot tea that was at the table was very tasty as well.
RETURN VISIT for Terry!9/2/2005 - 6.5 Rating: OK, I think NTK is now a miss for me. I went here last weekend with my kids to grab some quick noodles and was not impressed at all. We ordered a few noodle dishes and it all tasted the same. The flavor was rather bland and required a lot of sauce to bring it up to decent taste.
I think New Tung Kee is perfect for a late evening bite to eat, where you can get a warm bowl of soup (all I will order from now on at this place if I go back) and do some people watching. It can get rather crowded.
As it was, I have reviewed a heckuva lot of noodles places since my first visit here and now returning, I find myself very unimpressed.

I tried this place a couple times and I couldn't tell you one thing good about the food other than it's cheap with huge portion. The food supposed to be of Chinesevietnamese origin, but I can't taste any of that. There is nothing special about the food, I would rather go to McDonald.

I am surprised this is even listed here. New TK is like the fast food of noodles as they have their dishes down to a science. If you notice, whether you get your noodles fried or with soup the noodles and vegetables on your noodles are the same. They have huge portions here and its cheap but the food is just average. If youre hungry and dont have that much cash and looking to eat fast, this is the place to go.
There are not many differences between TK and New TK other than some family issues and that New TK seems to have the better technology with their beaming devices to beam your order to the kitchen so your food comes out even faster.
Its possible to order the soup noodles dry with just the soup on the side. Ive ordered this a few times but you must ask for it as its not an option listed on the menu. I like their pearl drinks here but without the pearl. The condensed flavored milk is already pre-made in the bottles they order from somewhere, but it is sweet and cold and goes well with the noodles. Their fried rice is tasty here as they use day old rice, so the rice is not mushy rather firm but still manage to stick together. Their chow fun with the flat rice noodle is above average only because its so greasy.
Avoid the flour cake as the scrambled egg will fall off the cake making it less enjoyable. Ive eaten it only because I was so hungry and the noodles were not enough. Save your money for a larger bowl of noodles, but the difference between large and small is not much. Several times Ive left TK still feeling hungry.

TK Noodle is a pretty large chain. Being a starving student, I've dug the change out of my pockets to get a big bowl of noodles. I've been to several of their locations, located all around the bay area. I swear there is a TK Noodle on every block of Downtown San Jose.
Anyways, their food is pretty consistent among the chains. The TK Noodle in Fremont is one of the cleaner locations that I've visited. I used to get myself a bowl of rice porridge either before or after I visited the dentist next door to reward myself for not freaking out on them (entirely different story).
I usually get the Singapore Style noodles, at least I think that's what it is called. It's deep fried pan noodles, with vegetables and gravy poured on top. They are mediocre, but cheap so I can get past those expensive food cravings when I'm poor. Their noodle soup is probably the best thing to order on the menu. I've had a few miscommunications with the employees at one of their locations in San Jose, where I would get a different item than from what I ordered, but that is run separately from the Fremont store.
Now that I have money (yay) I have boycotted TK Noodle due to many cleanliness issues that I have had. I've looked into their kitchen as they prepared food, and let's leave it at that.
After hearing what I gave this place, my friends got quite disturbed that I gave New TK such a low score; they wanted me to give it a 7 or higher. My score still stands.
I'm surprised Jatbar is reviewing this chain, but what the hell why not give my opinion? There are various New TK's around the Bay (sometimes deceptively called King Noodle...they're basically the same). Anyways what's the difference betweeen New TK and the original TKs? New TKs have vegetarian dishes (which I'm sure you could just request in the originals) displayed on the menus and Pad Thai.
More than half the time the food at New TK is acceptable. People who go here I doubt go here for a flavor explosion; no people go to New TK go for cheap prices and to get filled up. Again, the food at New TK is by no means horrible it's just acceptable (most of the time). Other times the food can taste horrible, and the place you can really taste bad food is in their noodle soups. On an off day it'll taste more like boiled water than broth, or they'll overload with MSG or something and leave you de-hydrated for the rest of the day. Also for rice and noodle dishes you'll get the very occasional bitter vegetable. Their tapioca drinks are OVERLOADED with ice, so it's best to go find a place like Fantasia, Q-Cup, etc. however, if you want the convenience of getting it there by all means help yourself.
What are the pluses of New TK: - Vegetarian items displayed on menus - Cheap food with good-sized portions - Menu in three different languages (English, Chinese, Vietnamese)
Minuses of New TK: - Tastes like what you paid for it. - More often than not (about over 50 percent of the time) dirty.
So if you're looking for a place where you're looking to spend about 5 bucks for noodle soup, fried noodles, etc. and get filled up New TK isn't a bad idea, but looking on jatbar I'm sure you'll find a better place. Lots of people seem to disregard the minuses of New TK.
