I was waiting for Pizzeria SFO to open for awhile, as I saw the COMING SOON sign for many weeks. Anyway, today I drive by and it says they are now open. My son and I head in for an early dinner.

The place was dead when we arrived (it was early so this is understandable). There were about 10x more employees in there than customers. The place looked vaguely Chili'ish and I started to panic. Is this place a chain? Is this a foo-foo place with over-salted food and boring flavor? The menu came out and it looked very chain-ish, maybe a bit Pizzeria-Uno'ish.

Now don't get me wrong. I was a big fan of Unos when they were in Fremont. So much so, that I would trek up to Jack London Square to get my Unos fix in. It really affected me when they packed up in Fremont.

Anyway - I was a bit unsure what to order as they offered everything from sandwiches to burgers to pizza to pasta, to soup and salad. The name of the restaurant itself lends itself to this confusion - pizza parlor? bar? or grill?

I decided to go for the Quattro Cheese and Pesto Chicago Pizza, and a Hefeweizen beer. The pizza arrived fairly quickly and was perhaps a bit smaller than an Uno personal pizza. I bit into it and was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was not overly greasy, had fresh and tasty ingredients and the mixture worked well together. Even the crust was fresh and a bit flaky. I finished this pizza off in short order and it filled me up.

My son wanted a dessert so we split a Brownie and ice cream. It tasted completely by the numbers and did nothing for me.

Prices were about average for dinner. My pizza was about $7.50. The service was excellent, the wait staff very attentive.

I would like to return in the next few weeks to make sure my experience was not a fluke. As it is, though, it seems like a great place to bring family or friends. Before we left, it was starting to pick up. I can see it becoming a popular night destination/bar in fremont as well.

RETURN VISIT for Terry! 11/13/2005 - 8.5 Rating: Made a return visit here the other day. I really like this place. Probably because I really like Pizzeria Uno. I got the broccoli and cheese deep dish pizza. Sound familiar? Yeah, Uno offers it too. Seems like the pizza selection is similar to Uno, except I like the crust here at SFO better. Its a buttery, crispier consistency that comes out just excellent. Looks like this place was pretty busy on a Friday night around 7pm. Glad to see they are getting popular. Its good stuff indeed.

The burgers onion rings and fries were very good, but the jumbalaya had too much tomatoe sauce and was very spicy, even for someone like me who goes to Thai restaurants all the time. The brownie was good too. The service was just right.
