I have been visiting Chris Bakery since my first visit to Kona in the ‘80s. The sign reading ‘Hot Malasadas always beckoned us to enter and sample the tasty treats. The place was always a bit rundown, but its still relatively clean. The Malasadas, when available, indeed are always hot. Today we got ours at 10am and they were still fresh, warm, and tasty. There is not a lot of grease, nor a lot of pizzazz, not too much sweetness, a bit tough (not super doughy) - just good solid Malasadas. The lady behind the counter was nice and gave us a few extra donuts for the kids, free of charge. If you are driving around South Kona, or on your way to South Point or Captain Cook, you owe it to yourself to stop by and try this longstanding local treasure.
