Terry and I did some wondering around Los Altos and found the American Italian Delicatessen. To be honest, we were trying to use our noses to find the trail of bbq smoke that smelled like hamburgers...we never found it. With American Italian Delicatessen in site, we made our way over. Looks like they have 3 things to offer: gelato for you sweet tooths, espressos for the sleepy, and a full service deli with various salads, meats, and cheese for the hungry. We were going with option 3.

I went the easy route and got the meatball sandwich on sourdough bread. Bread was rough on the mouth but it tasted fresh. I dont mind it being chewy but my gums were aching afterwards. The sauce was respectable with a homemade feel to it. Was on the sour bitter side, maybe it was the bell peppers? Meatballs were pleasing to the stomach. Werent too big where the centers would have no flavor or too cold, it was just right, I liked it. I probably should have gotten cheese on this sandwich but totally slipped my mind. The sandwich was a bargain price considering the large portions you get.

Id like to come back to try their signature sandwich the godfather. Order a sandwich and enjoy the people watching. If you still have room after that large sandwich, walk back inside and get a scoop of gelato. And if you are feeling the food coma kick in, make a return vist and sip on an espresso.

We were driving around Los Altos today looking for a new place to review. We couldn't miss the large storefront on Main street. We ducked in and placed our order, which was made fresh for us fairly quickly. These aren't the huge Roger's sandwiches I am used to. These are a bit smaller yet the ingredients tasted fresher and tastier. I ordered the cheese sandwich (provolone) on sourdough roll and found the bread to be jawbreakingly hard. Next time I will stick with the sourdough slice bread. Otherwise the sandwich was VERY tasty. Price was not terribly bad either. I tried their crab soup too but was unimpressed (tasted like canned tomato soup with pieces of crab in it). The big jar of pickles looks appetizing though so next time I may try that.

"The Ironman"

I don't eat sandwiches. But I always go to this place if I'm w/ friends/family who say they want a sandwich for lunch. I always get the Ironman, a nice size sandwich full of good stuff. Rating: 6.5
