Never been to Applewood but have seen a couple of locations on El Camino Real. This pizza place serves weird combos like Acapulco and Scandinavian pizzas, you are guarenteed to try something new.

I ordered the Budapest Sauteed Onions, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, and Hungarian Sausage....wooowwweeee those sausages are overwhelming. Strong flavor eminating from the pizza box...car smelled like a barbeque house. Got back to work and started the taste test.

Crust - Thick, like french bread..good stuff

Sauce - I had trouble tasting it because of the Sausage. I did see some chunks of tomatoes

Cheese - Cheese heaven, tons of cheese.

Sausage - Very strong flavor, a bit too powerful to me. I wouldnt mind eating this stuff on the side with bread or goulash.

Applewood Pizza definitely deserves a return visit. I think the next pizza I want to try is the Prosciutto Pizza.

I ordered the Margherita pizza and instantly wished I had ordered just a plain cheese pizza. The Margharita had lots of nice big tomatos and a good amount of cheese, yet it also had a ton of pesto which didn't seem to go too well. Overall the pizza tasted fresh and different, and the crust was legit and a bit thick, but it was just too foo-foo for me. I guess I am just more into the plain pizzas. This was maybe a notch below Tony and Albas in my opinion. Still a very good choice if you read the menu carefully and get just what you want. They tend to have unique pizzas (which is a good thing in its own right) just not what I was in the mood for.

I was expecting to have leftovers for lunch today, but I discovered there was pizza waiting for me at the office - from Applewood Pizza. It was one of the best slices I've ever had. I was initially thinking I'd give it a 9, but I've decided that it comes in at a solid 9.5. Let me break it down:

Crust - 10. I'm not a fan of super thin crust pizza, and I think this one had the optimum thickness. It was bready, but not doughy, and crispy on the outside but not greasy. All and all, I could not improve upon the crust in any way.

Toppings - 9. I tasted the Budapest pizza. It had smoked sausage, bell peppers and cheese. The sausage was fantastic. That sausage could totally stand on its own at a BBQ place. It was spicy and you could taste the mesquite cooked into it. It was soooo good. There was a little too much cheese, but honestly...can there ever really be too much cheese?

Sauce - I don't like sauce. We'll have no more mention of sauce in this review.

General eating experience - I made a huge mess, which is the sign of a good slice. I always have to pick off at least some of the toppings and monitor that there isn't too much sauce in any given location. At least 3 napkins were used which means I was fully wrapped up in my pizza - it commanded my entire attention.

I eat pizza fairly often and I was very impressed with my pizza today. I'm definitely going to be returning to this restaraunt!

Cheese Pizza

Being a college student, I know a thing or two about pizza, and Applewood is hands down my favorite pizza place. If you like thick crust pizza with plenty of cheese, then you can stop looking for another pizza place. I give Applewood a 9 easy.
