Went to Burger Town with a couple of my coworkers today. Terry and I had spotted earlier the burger joint on our visit to Satura Cakes. Burger Town is located in downtown Los Altos and appears to be one of the O.G. restaurants back in the day. I couldn't tell you how long it's been around but it reminds me of the Dairy Belle you see scattered throughout the bay area. The tables and floors were sticky from who knows what, grease? soda? this place is beat up. There was this annoying low rumbling noise coming from next door, which might have been the space shuttle preparing for launch.

The menu caters to meat eaters with 1-2 vegetarian items; fries and grilled cheese sandwiches. Burgers and seasoned fries are the items to order. I ordered a double burger with american (~$5) cheese no pickles, regular fries ($1.89), and water (free). Burgers are cooked on a flat grill with pools of grease adjacent to the patties.

This isn't your flame grilled gourmet burger joint but more of the fast food non-chain burger stand. The burger patties are probably frozen and don't expect to be asked how you would like your burgers cooked. There's no fixings bar but the common toppings of lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and pickles. It doesn't mean the burger isn't going to be enjoyable, you just have to adjust your standards to a different type of burger.

The double burger is a decently sized meal and for more ambitious eaters, they have a triple stack. The burger reminded me of a Super Star at Carls Jr without the charred taste and secret sauce. Although I saw tides of oil on the grill, the beef was relatively lean and grade of meat is something you can pick up in the freezer section. The veggies tasted fresh with a near eye watering onion slice in mine. Fries were standard issue side item with nothing too extraordinary to tell your friends about. I finished both items and left with a full belly. Overall ok.

Burger Town serves an average burger with slightly than higher prices. My meal rang up just under $7 which is more expensive than popular fast food burger places. Soft serves and shakes are available. The restaurant could have been cleaner but we were in the eye of the lunch storm. I would return if I was in the area since I grew up on this style of burger. It's comfort food with no strings attached.

Riptides!

Jason, your instincts are correct. This was a Dairy Belle 2 years ago before it changed names.
