I was looking for a shanghai style restaurant on El Camino Real but couldn't find it. We were on our way back and stumbled upon Hunan Home's Restaurant. Never heard anything about this place, not sure what to order, what the heck. The restaurant was clean and had the large aquariums with various types of fish and shellfish. They sat us down to the side and dropped off the menus. OMG, they have the fastest service. Drinks, soup, and placing our orders, we had our food in less than 10 minutes!!

I like that they had 3 types of soup went with the wonton soup. Flavorful and even better they had more than 1 wonton floating in the soup. Heavy beef broth flavor with an oil slick on the top. Very good soup.

The veggie roll was crispy and hot out of the fryer. The insides were just ok and could have used an oil draining.

For the main course I ordered the basil fish fillet (picture 7). Right off the bat, this tastes like a thai dish with the basil and stir fry. The fish being used is catfish and normally wouldn't order it if I'd known but there's always an exception to the rule. Today's fish was good with the thin fillets cooked just right. Mixed in was fresh basil, onions, shrooms, peppers, and a heavy glaze. Not too salty either!

My lunch special was $9.95 but there are many other options at $6.95/$7.95. The food tasted good and the service was lightening fast. It's an easy return visit if I'm in the area and wanting chinese food.

I was a little unsure as we drove up to this place. It was a drop-in, no wishlist request or anything. And it looked a little old-fashioned to be a standard chinese restaurant, especially with the name that made it sound like some kind of realtor office.

We pulled into the parking lot and it was surprisingly full. We enter the place and it looks very clean and smartly run, with waiters milling about the tables in this non-traditional restaurant layout. Instead of your standard empty box type of restaurant, this had multi levels and dividers, etc, to make a more private dining experience.

The menu contained a lot of the standard lunch specials, at a variety of prices. I was a bit hungry, so opted for something on the higher end of the pricing spectrum and settled on the scallops in hot sauce.

Soup and appetizer were brought out promptly. The hot and sour soup was delicious, nothing out of the ordinary, but well done. Its nice that they give you the choice of 2 or 3 types of soup. I was equally pleased with the eggroll. Nothing wrong here. I didn't even finish the eggroll and our dishes were arriving. FAST service. Wasn't sure they got my dish right, though, as it looked more like the scallops and asparagus dish, and wasn't very spicey, but I didn't care much since I like asparagus.

A large pot of rice was brought out too, more rice than you would expect for 2 people. They really know how to please the customer here. The scallop dish was pretty good, nothing mindblowing, but certainly done very well. Crunchy asparagus, juicy scallops. Good sauce.

Waters were refilled attentively, old dishware removed quickly as well. I was quite surprised by the quality of service at Hunan Homes. To top things off, our lunch special included a dessert. Very cool. I opted for the mango pudding. I'm not the biggest fan of mango, but didn't feel like ice cream today. I quickly devoured it though - really good, sweet.

I walked away spending about $10, but I opted for one of the more expensive seafood lunch specials. I would have no hesitation in returning here if in the area.
