Red Pepper is a 1st time visit for me as it was recommended by Adam. I guess he has been there a number of times which gave us more reason to try it. It was a short drive to the restaurant and even a shorter wait to enjoy the fresh chips and salsa. Bonus points are always given to mexican restaurants that give you heated chips that taste good! Whats even better is that they dont charge for chips unlike some restaurants Ive been to. So far so good...the place is decorated nicely and has a comfortable feel to it.

I usually save carne asada for sit down mexican restaurants since they usually use a flame grill to cook the beef. I went for the asada plate that came with beans, rice, and a burrito. I think they even smuggled a cheese enciliada to my plate?

Rice - very tasty. Moist, I liked it a lot

Beans - very runny but I dont recall them having too much of my favorite ingrediant...lard. Still good but didnt quite melt in my mouth

Burrito - I couldnt finish it, too damm big. The inside was filled with asada and sadly it wasnt grilled over an open flame. Cooked over a flat grill works but didnt have that charred flavor. Seasoning was almost non-existent but luckily the red sauce was there to flavor it up. It was ok

Tortilla - I think it was good? It was too wet from the red sauce and covered with 2 types of cheese.

I thought the food justifies another visit but nothing extradinary. Portions are huge and definitely get your moneys worth. One thing worth noting, Im not sure if they messed up on one of the dishes, but their carnitas looked quite odd with red sauce all over it? Personally for me, I would go back just because the waitress was hospitable and the decorations had a authentic feel to it.

Heard some good words about Red Pepper, so had to review it. The place had a nice homey charm about it, not quite La Casita in Fremont homey, but very warm nonetheless. So much so, that I strayed from my usual taqueria selection of veggie burrito and went with the homestyle selection of choice: double cheese enchiladas.

The food took a bit to arrive since we had a relatively large group of us. The chips and salsa tied us over in the meantime. The chips were warm so we munched on them quickly (and they refilled us). The salsas were OK, the chips were OK, but just the fact that they were warm improved the experience of them greatly.

When the food did arrive, I was pleased with the plate. Wasn't terribly large, but seemed to be a good amount of food for lunch. The refried beans were delicious (hard to mess that up), the rice was good - not mind blowing, but tasty enough. The cheese enchiladas reminded me of a cleaner La Casita style. Not quite as greasy and thick but satisfying enough. Prices were about inline with what I was expecting and what I received. I would not hesitate to return to Red Pepper if I was in the mood for homestyle mexican.

sunkist ate...

the most expensive quesadilla ever

I could have made at least 5 of these myself for the same price and used less oil. Nicely decorated interior.
