Iron Skillet was a recommendation (from a number of sources) since my positive review of Los Gatos Cafe. Supposedly it had the same menu but in a large establishment.

We arrive (it really wasn't that hard to find) and are impressed with the large amount of parking. We walk in and are instantly shown a table - no waiting at all on this weekend morning at 8am. I look at the menus - they are the exact same as Los Gatos Cafe. I scan the menu board for specials and see the 1/2 pound cinnamon roll. I also order the Copenhagen pancakes as well.

Food arrives astonishingly fast. Awesome. The cinnamon roll is purely astounding. Its monstrous. I would definitely recommend ordering this, but maybe split it with 2 or 3 people. Its super rich and just looks incredibly bad for you. But omg, it is one of the best breakfast rolls I have experienced. This is a must order.

The copenhagen pancakes were all super good. They are filled with a berry yogurt type of filling and are very thin. While maybe not for everyone, they were super fresh and ultra flavorful. Great stuff. I still think I prefer the omelettes/scrambles over their breaded fare (cinnamon roll notwithstanding), but everything is really good here.

I was debating the 9.5 or 9 on this place. After all, I gave Los Gatos Cafe a 9.5, and they have the same menu, super friendly waitstaff, blazing kitchen, super good food. Well, its the charm. While sitting in Iron Skillet I felt like I could have been in any old diner in Fremont. Los Gatos Cafe (while still kinda homey) it felt a bit more special, a bit more vibe going on - reminded me a lot of the old Mission Pine Cafe in Fremont. Though to be honest, I will probably be bringing my family to Iron Skillet simply because its easier to find parking, a bigger place, so less waiting, and perhaps a *tad* more family oriented. Its a close call. Iron Skillet should probably be a 9.25.

Iron Skillet is renamed to Los Gatos Café. The café is located at the end of the plaza. There is plenty of parking and several smaller tables were open around 1pm. My friend and I are quickly seated, brought menus, utensils, and water. We scan the menu. She orders a side of beefsteak cooked to well done with coffee (this is after we completed a dessert class from Sur La Table) and I order the Canadian omelet, which includes Canadian bacon, guacamole, tomatoes, and mushroom covered with cheddar cheese. The meal comes with potatoes and an item from the bakery; I select the raspberry coffee cake.

Several minutes later, our meal arrives. My omelet plate is huge with enough food to share for two. The coffee cake is about the same size as Hobee’s but looks much denser.
The omelet is great and the fried potatoes even better. Coffee cake was sweet and was definitely denser than Hobee’s version. I prefer the coffee cake from Los Gatos Café and would definitely pick this as a baked item again.

Prices here are decent; most omelets are $8 to $9. There are several choices ranging from the healthy egg white omelet to the indulge yourself omelet. Service here is good as our waitress checked on us several times, refilling the coffee and bringing to go boxes and our bill in a timely manner.

Not sure if they accept credit cards as I paid in cash. The meal came just under $20 with tax and tip. This would definitely be a repeat. The atmosphere reminds me a bit of Country Gourmet with Hobee’s, but the service here is much better.

What dish did you eat?

I was great. I think they close down the old location on Santa Cruz ave. Great breakfast. I wish they have some non-diary or substitute in their menu.

French Toast

French toast made with stale bread. Needless to say, I was not impressed.
