Los Gatos Cafe was a wishlist request, and one of the few breakfast places on the list, so was quite a drive for us today. We get over there and notice the sign proclaiming cash only. There is an ATM in the back of the place, and a Bank of America across the street.

We are also fortunate enough to arrive early and only have to wait about 5 minutes before we are shown a table. As we are eating, though, the line has built up to substantial size, with many taking tables outside or standing around in front, drinking the free coffee setup for folks who are waiting (which is a nice touch).

We are shown our table inside and given the large menu to look over. It takes quite a while for us to decide, but I eventually settle on Vegetable Roma scramble with the lemon & apricot muffin. With a hot chocolate.

The place is busy (its packed) but doesn't feel overly hectic like other places, with waiters bumping into you or rushing about. It still has the lazy Sunday morning feel to it.

The wait for our food was not long, but wasn't Country Way short either. Our plates arrived, and were not super large, but still were above average in size. Presentation was good, as was the quality of the food itself. It didn't appear overly greasy or low-grade.

My dish included a variety of vegetables mixed with eggs and potatoes topped with sour cream and sundried tomato pesto. Overall it was fantastic, among the best and freshest tasting breakfast I have had. I think the sour cream was a bit overdone - I should have scooped more of it off to the side - but the rest was perfect. The grease was kept to a minimum while the various veggie flavors were all genuine and pure.

The muffin was also quite tasty. A recommendation from the waitress, it lived up to its promise. When topped with the butter, this large muffin was not overly lemony, and ultimately superb.

I sampled my wife's blueberry coffee cake (which was recommended in the wishlist request) and found it to be also quite good. My wife thought it similar to hobees, but I thought it was better since it was a bit thinner (yet still had the irresistible crust). My wife was equally blown away by her custom designed omelette.

We both agreed that Los Gatos Cafe is the #1 best breakfast place in the bay area so far, and will be coming back here again whenever possible, despite the relatively far drive for us.

This is the place I think of whenever the word "brunch" comes up, and it's almost a weekly event sometimes. There is quite a line at times, and they do only take cash, yet it's worth all the hassle. I've eaten at many 'breakfast/brunch' places in the Bay Area including Stack's, Boogaloo's, Cup and Saucer, Country Inn, along with the usual IHOP, Hobee's and *shiver* Denny's. Los Gatos Cafe by far is the absolute best I've had thus far.

I normally order an omlette, but I ended up going with 'the scramble' yesterday. We shared that, along with an order of french toast, a blueberry coffee cake and a blueberry smoothie. The portions are huge, the presentation is awesome, and the food comes out in a respectable time. Everything is good, but if there's one recommendation I'd like to make is take it easy with the hollandaise, it's poured on freely on anything that comes with it; eggs flourintine, the scramble, etc.

So to recap:

1. Long Wait
2. Free Coffee/Water for the waiting
3. Prompt Seating (when there is a table)
4. Fantastic Service, and I think the coffee is complimentary.
5. Great food at great prices.
6. The Potatos
7. The Coffee Cake
8. The Eggs
9. The Portions
10. Cash Only
11. Stroll around Los Gatos to walk off those new found calories.

Highly Recommended. (For those curious, my top brunch spot of all time is Hash House A-Go-Go in San Diego, there's also one in Las Vegas...but the SD one is the one to go to.)

Eggs Benedict

Los Gatos Cafe and Iron Skillet may have the same menu but the Los Gatos Cafe makes my hash browns crispier and the eggs in my benedict without that runny white stuff that I hate. Iron Skillet has easier parking.

Everything

Cinnamon rolls are huge and delicious. We love everything there. My only complaint would be the over medium egg I ordered. The whites were runny. Nasty! Can't blame them. I can't find any restaurants that can make A decent egg anymore.

nothing, yet...

I just read that the Iron Skillet on Los Gatos Blvd (couple miles from town) has same owner, same menu. Larger location, probably less of a wait.
