I was on my way home when I called Joy Luck Place for some chinese food, the phone rang and nobody picked up. Looks like Im trying a new place called Fook Yuen. Its on El Camino Real in Millbrae with plenty of parking on the side, in front, a side lot, you get the picture. I walk in and immediately greeted by the hostess. I heard many good things about the seafood and looked forward to ordering salt and pepper shrimp and a house special crispy noodles.

As I waited for the food, I took a stroll down the street and ran into a couple of other places on my list, Seafood Harbour and Famous Frankfurter. You'll have to wait for those places another day. I left for 10 mins and my food was ready to go. Quick service had me wondering how the heck they were able to cook it that fast. I live about 5 miles away so hopefully it will cook a bit more on the way home.

salt and pepper shrimp - for the folks who arent familiar with this meal, its scallions and red peppers over lightly battered shrimp. shrimps have entire shell including the head. just remove the head and if you're lazy like me, just eat it with the shell on. it taste soooo good. Its one of my favorite dishes and Fook Yuen knows how to cook it up. They give a healthy serving of shrimp and for $12, I thought it was money well spent

house special crispy noodles - mix of seafood, chicken, veggies, light cream sauce over vermicelli noodles. Another favorite of mine and Im very picky about this dish. The only place that comes close to making this good is Joy Luck Place but honestly think Fook Yuen edges them out with their cream sauce. Im not sure whats in the sauce and Im sure it cant be good for the heart but thinking of this stuff makes my mouth salivate.

Fook Yuen is fookin good. I love it so much its made it in my top 5 list for chinese food. I have a feeling I'll be making many return visits here and I still have yet to try their Dim Sum!

RETURN VISIT for Jason! 8/2/2007 - 9 Rating: Still holds strong as one of my favorite chinese restaurants. Had the vegetarian Hong Kong style noodles, salt and pepper shrimp, and diced steak with scallions and onions. Everything was super good tonight. If you're looking for the budget chinese meal, don't come here. Prices are very expensive but it's one of the few places I'll happily fork out with extra dollars.
