My cousins and brother were in town for the Memorial weekend so I was their food guide for the trip. I normally try to go to places I've visited before but I had a reliable source tell me about the breakfast at Peter's Cafe in Millbrae. My food reputation is on the line. We arrived around 11 and sure enough, the place was packed. Open 24 hours a day, the restaurant has gone through some wear and tear. I don't know how long this place has been around but check out the coin operated phone in picture #4, ooooooolllddd schhhooool. Those phones remind of the drunken times I would take hookers back to my motel room (c'mon, it's a JOKE, tough crowd, boooooooo).

I'm not much of a breakfast person for 2 reasons. I'm not a morning person. The only time I wake up early is if I'm up all night. Breakfast is one of the easiest things to cook at home.

I ordered the waffle sandwich and had these grand illusions of 2 pieces of waffle with an egg and 2 pieces of bacon inbetween like a sandwich. wrrrrooong. It was a giant waffle with a separate plate of eggs and bacon. If you take a look at the waffle in picture #6, you'll notice the overdone suntan. Even the waitress mentioned the overcooked appearance. Ding. She's correct, my waffle tasted like a fortune cookie. I sent it back and ate my eggs, bacon, and home fries.

eggs - well, they were eggs, nothing fancy, a little oily, not too fluffy.

bacon - kinda cold like they were cooked hours ago sitting in the stainless steel tray waiting to be placed on a plate

home fries - weak, weak, weak. It was bland and the potatoes were on the raw side. They had no crunch to it and seasonings were almost non-existant. I had to drown it in pepper and tabasco. I make better home fries at home. They did serve a giant portion but too bad I left 3/4 of it.

I sat there waiting and waiting for my waffle replacement. It was busy and the waitress was all over the place. I finished my eggs and bacon and it's kind of a drag not to have something sweet when I'm eating salty and oily items. I reminded my waitress about my waffle and she goes, omg, I forgot. She ran to the counter and dropped off a light brown soggy waffle. sigh. The only thing that saved the waffle was the syrup.

How did the other plates fare?

Peters Special Scramble - cardiac arrest waiting to happen, I'm sure this is the bomb after midnight.

Monte Cristo - just looking at it from across the table, it looked nasty. My cousin Charlotte wondered what the hell she ordered. Complete miss.

Why the 7? Ok, for 1, Peter's Cafe is open 24 hours a day. I respect any restaurant that has the balls to stay open all day. Bay Area has limited places open past 10PM and I give bonus points for late night restaurants. Here's the deal, from what I had today, I would not bring family or friends back to Peter's Cafe during regular normal eating hours. If it was 4AM and starving, Peter's Cafe is #1 on my list near my house.

I'll have to agree with the 7 just because this place is open so late and easy to get to. The wait staff is also very friendly (at any hour of the day) and willing to put up with a group of wasted, smelly people coming back from partying up in the city.

I'm less then excited about the food though, I seriously think the secret is you have to be DRUNK to enjoy the food. The last few times I've eaten here I was sober. Everything I ordered has been tasteless and had the texture of wet cardboard.

I believe I ordered the cheeseburger with potato salad last time.

If it's 4am and I need food I'll swing by Peter's Cafe again.
