My photo gallery 		Roaming the streets of Millbrae and stumble upon Broadway. Packed with many restaurants and cafes, I can foresee making more stops in the next couple of weeks. I had just finished a taco run and wanted something a little sweet. I spotted Suzanne's Cakes N' Pastries and found parking a block down. Sunday parking is easy but much more difficult on a weekday around 6PM.

I'm guessing the bakery has Chinese influences with egg custard tarts and red bean buns on display. The place appears to have been around for some time with photos on the walls from decades ago. I browsed the case for a couple of minutes and an older chinese lady appeared from the back. I asked for a recommendation and she said the egg or pumpkin tarts are her favorites. I ordered both and a loaf of bread. I knew they were closing soon but asked if I could eat one of the tarts. The lady told me to take my time and she would brew coffee for me, it's such a relief to find friendly family joints like this.

I normally have egg tarts during dim sum and Suzannes Cakes and Pastries egg tarts taste completely different than the others. The crust isn't as flakey and taste more like crumbly pie crust. The custard was sweet and just ok. Although it didn't taste like an authentic egg tart, I'd probably order one again. Rated 7.

The pumpkin tart tasted exactly like a miniature pumpkin pie. The pumpkin stuff tasted like the canned stuff and lacked the heavy cinnamon spice I desire. Oddly enough though, I still enjoyed it. Rated 7.5.

Loaf of french bread was much better than what get at Safeway. I was able to make several sandwiches over the week.

The tarts were averagely good and while the bread was much better than grocery stores, my gut feeling says their french pastries and cakes are the real winners here. 7.5 might seem kinda low for Suzanne's Cakes N' Pastries but I can guarantee people who have ordered cakes and enjoyed the friendliness of the owner will swear it's a 9.
