I told Jason that it would be kind of cool to do nothing but restaurants off the wishlist until we hit #1000. Would be a neat experiment. He is obviously a bit less enthusiastic about it, and ultimately he is probably right : it would not be very easy to do since most of the places are no longer near our workplace.

I started off #901 with a request from agent jsatre of Baja Cactus in Milpitas. A short drive from home, it was a bit off the main drag of Milpitas, but easy enough to find. We arrive and the small parking lot is nearly full. Inside the smallish restaurant, its filling up quickly since 2 large parties are gathering. This practically takes up the full restaurant, but we have no problem finding a table and getting menus.

Service was quick...initially. We placed our orders quickly (I went with the veggie burrito & cheese enchilada combo) with refried beans and rice. Waiting for food was short too.

My plate looked solid. It wasn't a super large portion, but just right for the kind of heavy food that it is. Beans were thin and very bad for me, but tasted good. Rice was just OK, not as thick and moist as I would have hoped. Still good enough. The vegetables in the burrito were prepared fajitas style and included lots of onion, green peppers, and broccoli, as well as the guac and sour cream. It might not sound good, but this was actually really good. I would probably rate it in the 9 range for this burrito. Good stuff.

The enchilada brought it down for me. The tortilla was too tough and the sauce was forgettable. It was a bit thin too. I would not order this again.

After our meal, we waited insufferably for the attention of our waitress (in order to pay). It was so bad, I was considering lowering the score. But I couldn't do it since she was running around a lot trying to serve the two large parties, so its not like she was just sitting around. It was just an unfortunate situation for us, showing up on this busy night.

Overall, a good solid mexican family-style restaurant. Its nice that its off the beaten path and probably unknown to all but the locals, yet its still busy - so that counts for something.

Chicken Mole

I went over a year ago but the chicken mole was THAT memorable! I must go back. Incredible food. Yes, the service after receiving food is iffy. I think I'll make a return visit SOON!
