I was a bit surprised by this place. We were looking for a good meal for lunch and I scanned the wishlist and came across this one. Upon driving up, I was a little skeptical. Its pretty bland looking on the outside, located next to a Wheel Works, and super dark windows. It doesn't look rundown (as then I would have thought maybe this place was legit) but just looked boring.

We get inside, and instantly my mood changes. Its super dark of course, but there is also plenty of indications that this is a 100% family style restaurant. The place is packed with Hispanic patrons, including a big group celebrating a birthday party.

We sit down and scan the large menu. Everything looks good, but I eventually settle on the shrimp enchiladas. My meal comes with a soup or salad, I go with the soup, which today is the lentil. Interesting sounding, but I wasn't in the mood - but take it anyway.

Soup arrives and it is GOOD. I am not much of a lentil fan, but this is good stuff. Maybe its all the beef broth in there or something - its salty and tasty. Thats all I am caring about. Worth trying if you are not totally averse to lentils.

The plates arrive and they are among the hottest we have experience in a mexican restaurant. Temperature-wise. Do not touch these plates. You have been warned. Even the waiter will warn you - just like at every mexican restaurant - but here they are not kidding.

The rice was solid, including little peas in it. The refried beans were good, but not stellar. I do the mix-in with the rice and it was all good, so no complaints from me. The enchiladas were also darn good, except for the shrimps themselves. They tasted like freezer burn or something. Maybe too fishy as well. If I went with my standard cheese enchiladas I would have been completely satisfied with my meal, so I won't ding them too hard as I had no troubles working my plate. I got so stuffed, I couldn't finish it, but came close.

Service was super friendly, and attentive. The guys working the floor here are top notch.

There is no question about it, next time I have to get new tires installed, patched, etc, I am going to the Milpitas Wheel Works just so I can eat at Casa Azteca. A great restaurant all around.

cheese enchiladas

The absolutely best salsa out there, and they keep your water glass full so you can keep on eating it! This is also a great family restaurant- and they always cool down the kids plates before bringing them out.
