Hawgs N Dawgs was a wishlist request and I was meeting up with the wife in Milpitas, so figured this would be a decent place that everyone would enjoy. The place is kinda small, and is located across the street from Las Vegas Taqueria, and a few blocks down from the old Half Penny.

The place only accepts cash, and they don't serve beer. It seemed like a lot of folks were getting their orders to go home, and even our eat-in items were served in a styrofoam container, and all utensils were plastic.

I was a little disappointed to find no veggie selections on the menu, tho I can hardly say I am surprised. I decided to go all out then, and order the Ribs and sausage combo. The order took awhile to arrive, which gave me time to check out the place. The interior reminds me a bit of a low-budget University Chicken, and the menu is reminiscent of Carmens BBQ in Fremont. Prices seems to be lower than what you will find at Carmens, however.

The food arrived and looked solid. I am no expert on Ribs (have only eaten it 2 or 3 times in the last 5 years) but it tasted smokey and was covered in that spicy sauce. The sauce was REALLY good. I tried to supercoat every bite with the sauce. It wasn't out of this world spicy, but the heat made itself known. Fans of spice, will be better served going to Carmens.

The sausages were not greasy, more like hot dogs. They were grilled and also slathered with the sauce. With the sauce anything is good.

My wife went with the suicide dawg (slices of bacon in the hot dog) and she enjoyed it a lot. The buns on the hot dogs are similar to what you get at Top Dog in berkeley, and were grilled as well.

The menu was fun (meat lovers will rejoice), the place had a definitely family feel to it. I rate it an 8, but doubt I will be here once a month. But true meat eaters will probably enjoy this place a lot. Overall I think Carmens edges them out, and offers beer, but you will leave Hawgs N Dawgs with more money in your wallet.

Closed (so sad)

Went by today and the store was closed with a "for lease" sign up. Anybody know if they just moved?

Philly Dog and collard greens

Very satisfying! Tit the spot. Not a typical hot dog joint. Menu has some crazy names, but it is worth a try. Trust me. I go here twice a week and love it. I highly reccommend this place to everyone who likes good food for cheap.

What dish did you eat?

Ive been there on many occasions. They have a pretty cool hot dog menu. The Suicide Dog was a popular item there. Cream cheese, onions, and bacon. Not your normal hot dog. A must try. They also have Chili Mac and the best potatoe salad in town.

macaroni and chees

I thought the macaroni and cheese was very interesting. It had mashed potatoes in it, which gave it a nice different flavor. I have never had this flavor combination before so I really enjoyed it, and I will be returning to this place very soon.
