The only reason we landed at Thai Paradise was Banana Leaf was packed beyond belief. They had people milling around in the parking lot waiting for a table. Is it that good? We will find out next week.

Located in McCarthy Ranch, its next door to Taqueria Los Cunados and across from the Banana Leaf. If you want to eat at any restaurant in McCarthy Ranch, my suggestion would go after 1PM. Parking could be a pain in the ass.

We finally got a table after a short 10 minute wait. Inside was completely packed..this is a good sign right? Well, I think these people are eating here under the circumstances....and what might that be? They couldnt find a table at the Banana Leaf..haha...ok, no more punches. Lets talk about the dining experience. First thing I noticed on the menu were the prices...a bit higher than we are used to not to mention they charge $1 for a bowl of rice. That should be free when you buy a $10.50 seafood dish. I wasnt happy with my lunch. Heres my bitch list

1. They served soup and waiter forgot to give us napkins. We had to go up to the counter and get our own. After the waiter saw us grab our own napkins, he returned with napkins and said sorry. He could have went the extra mile and actually hand it to each of us instead of pile it on the table....they were busy though.

2. Soup had a syrupy consistency...layoff the corn starch

3. My spicey seafood was lacking the spice. It was nowhere near spicey, they only spice in that dish was black pepper. Seafood was ok, cant complain too much about the freshness but the sauce was beyond salty. I had to drink 4-5 glasses of water when I got back to work. Very disappointing considering I just spent $11.50 for something that was below average.

I cant justify coming back to Thai Paradise for my lunch meal, Im sure they have other dishes that are wonderful but I can tell you its not the Spicey Seafood plate.

Terry drove by and mentioned Thai Paradise has closed and a Hawaiian restaurant has replaced it.

We were originally going to review Banana Leaf (from a Jatbar recommendation) but the line was completely out of control. I'm talking the most I've ever seen for a lunch crowd at a non-chain restaurant. Amazing. I can't wait to review that place. Must be off the hook. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Right next to Banana Leaf (in McCarthy Ranch) was Thai Paradise. Jason was already in the mood for ThaiMalayasian food, so we decided to go to Thai Paradise.

Prices seemed a bit high (especially after coming from Thai Basil recently) but presentation of the food was very close. Many dishes were served in fruits like Mango or Pineapple. Very classy place and the prices reflect that.

How was the food? I ordered the lunch special #1: Garlic Pepper (with tofu). It took a bit for the food to arrive, but this place was pretty busy, so can't argue too much. The food arrived and looked appetizing. The first bite, and wow. They put a LOT of salt in this thing. The sodium was out of control and entirely too much. The garlic was equally out of control. They put WAAAY too much. If you are REALLY looking for a lot of flavor, this place could be for you, but I was more in the mood for something a bit more sublte. Spicyness was way down in this dish which was OK as there was a lot of other flavoring competing in this dish. The balance just didn't suit me. I was driving a TON of water the remainder of the afternoon and even in the evening right now I am still a bit parched from all the sodium intake. I think I would go back to try another dish, but it probably won't be anytime soon.

It's not closed, it just moved to the other side of the freeway. (It couldn't keep up with the competition). We'll never go back, we go to Thai all the time, I never thought you could get a bad meal at a Thai restaraunt, was I ever wrong.
