Best Bite offers great service with average food. Located off El Camino Real in Mountain View, a unpretentious restaurant with minimal decorations. The owners are extremely nice from the time you walk in to the time you leave the restaurant.

The food on the other hand is just about average with prices slighly on the higher side. Hummus plate was $3.50 and served in a small bowl. Tasted like a mix of tomato paste and hummus? The lavash bread is the stuff you can get at any middle eastern restaurant...nothing special.

Lunch prices are fair as I ordered the Falafel sandwich @ $5. Sandwich was alright, a good size portion but a bit too runny for me. The hummus drenched my plate as it escaped out of the bottom of the wrap. I dont know if I would order it again.

Best Bite ranks in with a 7.

Best Bite offers good middle eastern food. Their selection is small to medium, and they offer daily lunch specials. My big problem with this is their value. They charge a lot (7 - 8 for most lunch entrees) and you don't get a whole lot of food. I ordered the Koko Bademjan (eggplant souffle). This is REALLY tasty and looks very much like meat and tastes better. The problem is that they don't give you very much. :( I could eat this at least every couple weeks if they either gave me more or charged me less.

I also ordered the Hummus (for $3.50 its kinda pricey too, considering they give you the bread for free anyway). It was redder than I was used to and much more runny (I think they mixed in tomatoes). It was tasty, but disappeared quickly.

I probably come here once a year and am always pleased with the place, but invariably head over to Baskin Robbins nearby afterwards to give me that little extra to fill up.

Jason ordered the Falafel sandwich and that must have been twice as much food as I received. At $5 that seems to be a much better value.

Ever walk into a room full of people and suddenly the conversation stops? That's how I felt during my first visit to Best Bite. A really weird vibe - friendly but with an edge of caution. It's almost as if something was crawling on the ceiling, and they were taking bets on whether I'd notice.

Best bite has zero curb appeal but is a lot nicer inside, even considering the diner-like layout. There are only about ten booths and the crowds were light for both my visits.

The food is OK. Like many places I've tried recently, it is Mediterranean food with a Persian bent. Here's what I've had here so far:

-- Falafel Plate: 4 large falafel balls and a salad. The falafel balls were placed on a layer tahini and yogurt sauce and were outstanding - flavorful and moist inside. The salad was disappointing, consisting of shredded iceberg lettuce with one slice of tomato on top. Total cost was $10.50 incl. tax. Kind of pricey, but not a complete ripoff due to the excellent falafel. Still, the plate seemed small, and I could've used an extra falafel ball as I was still a bit hungry when I left. 7.5 max for that.

-- Gourmeh Sabzi: on Fridays only; $14 incl tax and tip. Hard to go wrong with a healthy portion of beef/spinach stew and a large plate of bi-color rice. Not the very best I've had, but tasty nonetheless. Includes a basket of lavash and onion slices served on the side (though I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with the onions). Maybe 8.0. Service on this trip was far more friendly and the weird vibe was gone.

I'm not sure I will be back to Best Bite very soon, especially with so many other Mediterranean places still on my list. Plus they don't offer Fesenjan on the menu, my favorite Persian dish of all time, space & dimension. On a more wintry day I may come back for a big steaming plate of the Gourmeh Sabzi.

Falafel plate and Chicken Sandwich

I always had a soft spot for this little place. The staff are always very friendly, and the food is good. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but the unlimited Lavash bread helps. Slice the raw onion, sprinkle on the spice and eat with the lavash
