Back in our old lunch stomping grounds in Mountain View off Castro street to meet up with some friends at Cafe Baklava. Having been told by a number of visitors that this place serves great food, Terry and I were here to investigate. We arrived during the lunch rush and missed out on the outdoor seating. Darn...it was a beautfil day so we had to settle for a charming atmosphere inside.

We started off with pita and a lime green color dipping sauce. I dont know exactly what it was and I dont want to attemp to disect what the ingrediants were, lets just say it tasted good.

For appetizers, I got falafels balls topped off with some sort of sour cream sauce with lettuce as a garnish. The falafels were just fried and crunchy, dark green yellowish on the inside....hmmm....sooo goood.

The main course was the adana kabob.

meat - spicy spicy spicy, great, great, great. I love when a restaurant can make a dish spicy enough to where its not uncomfortable to the diner. Im a firm believer that spices open up the taste buds in your mouth to allow you enjoy the flavors just a tiny bit more. The meat was excellent and had a tasty charred flavor to it.

veggies - I was only a fan of red bellpeppers, its just my preference though. I normally dont like cauliflower.

rice - it was buried underneath the meat and veggies with all the juices mixing with the rice. It was moist and fluffy.

Whats not to love about Cafe Baklava? Their service was friendly and attentive, waters always refilled at the right time. Sitting at the table eating delicious food with lovely furnishings, colorful table settings make this an enjoyable lunch. I was happy to hand them my hard earned money for a job well done.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but our experience at Cafe Baklava was not so great. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great.

We went for lunch and I settled for the chicken wrap and a beer. The wrap was ok, a little on the bland side but I did appreciate the side of fries. On this I would rate it a 7, so I guess my rating is fair.

The wait staff, although was somewhat friendly had a somewhat arrogant attitude. arguing with us about our orders - friend ordered fries not a salad, the waiter insisted he said salad. maybe it came out of his check? who knew, but we didn't need to cause a scene and lose our conversation. They also stuck words in other's mouth - "i believe he had that, you like it right sir?" of course the other patron nodded, what was he supposed to say? he gave us his piece of mind after the waiter left - it was a plate of $18 salt.

7/10

Falafel Wrap

Eh, the food was ok. They give you a lot for your money, but it is bland, bland, bland. I only finished half of my sandwich, but only because it was so boring tasting. wchane is right, the serving staff is a bit arrogant.
